What lubricants to use...

Im sure that this topic had been discused before. But I did a search and didnt find anything about it.

What kind of oil to use:
Engine oil??
Transmision oil??
Brake Fluid??
Coolant??
and
Diferential Oil??

What brands do you use for each oil?

I know AMG recomends Mobil 1. but im sure some of you have tried diferent brands.

Most of us have a warranty to maintain, and the first thing a dealer could do on a blown engine/trans/rear is a $26.00 oil test. Not worth the risk, and what is the upside to a different oil? our E55 don't have oil related problems with the Mobil 1 anyway.

Only thing I have ever heard was Motul in the rear diff.

Other than that, I can't imagine running anything else in the tranny, brakes or power steering pump etc. Benz didn't do too shabby on that end.....

Couple of guys talked Royal Purple but I watched the challenge be done right in front of me. Going from Synthetic to RP caused zero hp gain. Actually lost a few hp (motor hot on dyno). Mobil 1 to RP would be worthless.

Motul rear diff fluid is real good stuff, In fact anything Motul is top notch, However its expensive. So does the cost justify the gains? I would highly recommend Motul diff fluid. My take on it is the stuff makes the diff lock up easier and for me has proved a real benefit at the track. From two wheel LSD like burnout to great 60ft times. I dont have an LSD and all I can think of is the new fluid is helping me out at the track.

On another note: Motul Engine oil does not last very long. When its new it is a very good oil and will free up a few ponies. However it does not take long for you to smoke the oil. Lots of road racers swear by the stuff, but they know its only good for one track day.

With any motor oil its important to smell it to see if it is burnt. Once you smell burnt oil it will be very distinctive and you cant mistake it.

Transmission fluid its best to just us what the dealer uses. Changing the trans fluid (I just did mine) you may notice the car shifting a bit smoother.

With brake fluid I think you best bang for the buck is to get some braided lines that dont expand under braking It will give you much better brake feel.

How you use your car will play a roll in the fluids you use.

On my best drag pass, I used Mobil1 0w40 oil, new Mercedes trans fluid, Motul Diff fluid. Works for me.
