Charge for Diagnostics at dealer?
I've got a $0 deductible warranty and need to take my car in for service. The dealer said there would be a minimum $125 charge to hook it up to the cpu and run a diagnostic test. They said this would not be covered by any warranty but was a mandatory charge. Wouldn't a factory warranty cover this charge? I know it's only $125 but I would think that diagnosis of the problem would be covered as it is a required part of the repair process?![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
Is this typical?

At least they told you up front! I found out only after the fact. Your assumption is fair, but unfortunately, the dealer is right. Under the extended MB warranty, diagnostics are not covered, UNLESS they reveal a problem that IS covered under the warranty.
Hope this helps.

That is a rip off. If you have warranty and need warranty work then the diagnosis is their issue. the only time I have heard of paying for diagnostics is if it is for something that is not found to be covered and you choose NOT to get it fixed there.

Most dealers will waive the fee if it is a warranty related issue. Some will even waive it if it is not warranty related, but you get it fixed there.
Just take it to Autozone, they do free CEL checks and they'll pull up the same codes if you have a CEL.

What's the big deal they only charge you if it's something not covered under warranty and if it's not under warranty they put it towards the cost of the repair. You only pay if you are not under warranty and do not have the repairs done at the dealer. The tech needs to be paid for his diagnosis and the info that autozone gets is limited.
