You had to dig up a 7 month old thread to speak those illustrious words of wisdom?

hmmm... I own a TT and a Cayenne TT (an a E63) and am not sure why someone wouldn't consider these to be P-cars. I love driving my CTT and with its 550hp it's faster than most anything I come across on the road and have taken down more than a few unsuspecting Corvette's. I need a SUV on occasion and the Cayenne is as "Porsche" as anything in my opinion. It's also important to note that Porsche was/is the most profitable car company in the world currently and makes more profit per vehicle than any other manufacturer.

All that aside, I've driven a Panamera 4S (sticker was $120k) and it was pretty impressive and MUCH better looking in person (especially in black with the Turbo wheels). Performance was VERY good for a non-turbo and the interior and fit was excellent. I agree that buying a first year car would be a mistake as there will be kinks to work out of the alpha cars. The E63 vs. the 4S is not comparable overall on the performance front as it would be better to compare the Turbo vs. E63 but the price differential is pretty large ($35-50k).

It will come down to personal preference in the end but drive both to make the best decision. Good luck!

Sure the performance will be great considering it is a porsche however the E63 still has more power considering they are using the 500HP turbo engine from the Cayenne in the Panamera Turbo. Secondly true porsche enthusiast will look at the panamera and think that the designers at porsche took some sort of illegal drug while designing the vehicle and even during the concept stages. After this you can see why the E63 is the best choice, plus you have another car that we can all discuss on this very forum. Hope this helps!

Love your car collection AMG1 Nice set of toys with a great spread of personalities! I thought about getting a ZR1 for the fun factor without the fit/finish but haven't pulled the trigger yet...

I considered a Porsche as well but for the money and what you get, no way, the value just isn't there.

Forget brands for a second, stack up what the car offers, HP, performance, etc then rank it against other German brands, Audi S8, S63 or S65, BMW M5, etc and Porsche falls down.

Think about this just for one moment. You could get a 1 year old, 2008 S65 for $130K - $150K who's stock HP/TQ absolutely bury the Porsche, then mod it for $3K and have an 700HP/800TQ monstrosity.

Here, 15K miles, 2007 S65 for $109K, Certified.

Forget Porsche.

My $.02.

Looks even better in wide screen mode

Black makes the rear end look a bit smaller.

Panamera 4S > E63
S63 > Panamera 4S
Panamers Turbo > S63

The only thing I'm unsure of is S65 and Panamera Turbo. They feel kinda equal to me, maybe leaning towards the S65.

Test drove Panamera 4S and E63: impressions

I own a 07 E63 and I test drove the Panamera 4S. The interior feels richer, more luxurious. The car feels vast. You sit low like in a bathtub, with the wheels feeling very big and very far apart. I feel like a hunkered down cheetah. The car feels like a large sports car, with svelt handling for such a monster-sized machine. It's a 5 second car, though, and feels slower than the E63. The motor is smooth and linear, but I like the explosive, slap you in the back, ram you into your backseat feel of the AMG torque monster more.

The 2010 E63 is a beast with a throaty growl and handles on rails compared to my 07. The paddle shifters feel faster than mine, but just subtly. As stated over in the W212 forum, it does feel less luxurious than mine, especially with the cheap headliner and what apparently is standard leather.

Overall, the leases are around $1800 to $2000 per month for both, so it's a matter of taste. The Panamera, I must confess, looks much nicer in person than in pictures. I'm still not totally used to the new angular E look yet.

You won't go wrong with either car. Definitely go see them both in person.

Obviously, not a stock car. If you like this car, you don't like the Panamera from your local neighborhood Porsche dealer as much as if you like Cindy Crwford, you don't like your usual next door cougar. I just saw one parked in front of my house and boy they are not good looking at all!!! You pretty much need to just decide you want to go for it because of the "performance" aspect of it. Get an E 63 for $90's and spend the other $30's in a real air cooled Porsche, then you get both worlds (that's what I did)

Since I'm not into the looks of either, I'd probably go Panamera. Performance of either would be more than pleasurable for me.

I find the Panamera to be both pretty, and hideous, in comparison with the new E. The big win for the Panamera is the far classier and more luxurious interior, as the W212's is too hard and plasticy for what I'd expect, IMO leaving E63's not proper for a car of that price range.

Putting $$ into the equation makes it a different story altogether though.

Panamera - I guess if you spend all your time driving it - you don't have to lok at it from the outside - esp the rear.

Blacking it out looks "better" because it blurs the unattractive lines. You know how they tell fat people to dress in one color from head to toe and that black is slimming? Now you know why that set of pics looks "good".

I've seen at least 4 stock ones - all different colors - all looking like an unholy union between a 911 and a Pontiac.

I bet it drives great. It ought to.

I just can't get over the looks. Porsche should stick to coupes and verts.

I also agree with the other poster that likes the new VW CC. Very nice looking car - if they would drop in the old Phaeton motor (W12?) or something cool - it really could be a contender.

Porsche should stop trying to make a 911 out of every car they are making, the Panamera looks like a Cayenne that had something heavy dropped over it and both lowered and elongated it. They tried to make the Cayenne as "911 like" as they could, and by God, it is not.

I had a Phaeton before my E63 and I had it side to side with a CC. The CC looks like a go kart compared to the Phaeton IMO.

I test drove a 4S on Saturday and was completely blown away by how quick the car felt! The PDK transmission produces uber quick neck snapping shifts like nothing I've ever experienced! It is a very impressive automobile. I am a long time Porsche owner and have owned almost every model they've ever built (except the 356, 914 and 997) including 3 Cayennes (S, TT and GTS). I am definitley not a purist b/c I like lots of Porsches and they do NOT have to be air cooled.... I remember when the Cayenne came out and people bashed it just like they're bashing the Pamamera now....... I must admit that I was one of those people just based on the pictures I'd seen and admitedly even after seeing it in person I'm still torn by it's styling. It's starting to grow on me. Not all colors look good on the Panamera and you'll certainly have to do something with those fugly wheels!!! My underlying problem with Porsche these days is the fact that EVERYTHING is an option! Granted, the base price is fairly reasonable but to get one nicely equipped you're looking at $120k+; that's $30k+ in options!!! .....and what's up with Porsche and wheels these days? Talk about ugly??? Thank goodness for the aftermarket.....
