E55 electronic trunk close button works intermittenly??
Sometimes my rear trunk lid electro closing button works & other times not. Any of you had this same issue or know what part needs replacement? I searched this problem in our section & did unlock the lock latch w/ no success either.

I'm not sure if we are talking about the same thing.
But on mine, you have to press the close button twice if the trunk has been opened more than a minute or so. It's kind of weird and it doesn't require that if you attempt to close the trunk shortly after it's been opened. It's only when you delay closing it then you have to press it twice.

The power trunk closure is one of the worst designed part in the entire car. I had mine in at least three times, once for over a WEEK, when it was under factory warranty. Under extended warranty I had it in again, less than thee months from the last time. Bad design, there are so many things to go bad. Weak wiring that eventually wares through after too many open/close cycles, sensors that don't report the trunk angle correctly, on and on. The tech told me that it was the least favored thing to work on, over an hour just to take it apart and look for trouble.
All this to save us the trouble if pushing the trunk closed? Or closing it from inside? how often is that a must-have feature? If i'd been the original owner, NFW would I have paid for that option, just too trivial a benefit and to fussy a system.
FWIW!

Th & could be. I'll have my tech look into the module.

power rear sunshade auto-leveling bi-xenons, airmatic, power folding mirrors, power seats, etc. would not be must-have features?

they all have motors which can fail in time...
I had the same problem on my 06 E55.
I took it to San Francisco Mercedes Benz & they fixed the problem.
When I asked them what was wrong, they replied back with "Harness Problem".
It appears that the wire harness is to short and later becomes dis-connected by wear and tear.
They fixed the problem by extending the wire harness.
I have no idea where the wire harness is located or why it get dis-connected

Thx again for everyone's help & replies!
Mine works on the first try about 50% of the time -- otherwise, I've got to push it twice. I haven't detected any pattern to the behavior, and have just learned to live with it. I agree, it's not a must-have option by any stretch, and I'm not going to kill too many brain cells trying to solve its glitches.

Mine does this once in a while as well, but i was always assuming i didn't hit the button hard enough.
I like it when people look at me funny because the trunk on my car closes when i hit a button. It's kind of a neat feature.

i'll check & look into this when i get a chance this week. U & JohnnyNg1981 above had same issue. Thx everyone for tips & replies.
Mine is having the same problem again. When I open the trunk all the way it will not close. If I pull the trunk half way down & then hit the button it will close. Looks like the harness is getting stretched like others have reported. I tried to take off the panel in the trunk but didn't get to far. It didn't come off as easy I wanted. Was afraid to brake the tabs. Will try again & post my results

I have seen posts that indicate, if the trunk closer works too fast, a module is a fix for the problem. This problem dose sound like a connection problem but the connector is fixed to the motor and gear and dose not move when the trunk opens or closes.
Just an update. I got the trunk fixed. Dealer initially thought it was the motor that worn out & ordered a new one. came back a week later & it it still didn't work. They found a bad wire that needed replacement. The SA said this particular wire wasn't covered by my cpo & it would cost $500+ to fix. I was about to tell them forget it & the foreman came in & said some other wires were also bad, but those were covered so they will just do the whole thing under my CPO. Works like a charm now.
