Had a run in a gallardo superleggera. Twice!

So i'm driving to Chicago, going down 90 east into downtown; and i see an orange/black gallardo superleggera coming down off the ramp, and driving in front of me for a few miles. I turned off my radio and followed him just to get turned on from the sound! A few miles go by, and i decide to pass him by. I'm the middle lane, looking in my mirror and see him coming at me, so i quickly switch to manual mode. The G moves in the left lane and pulls next to me. I try to slow down to 65-70mph so i can start in 2nd gear. As he's passing me, the G guns it and i was right there doin the same. He started about 1 1/2 cars in front of me when he took off at around 70-75mph; by 120mph, i was only 1/2 a car behind him. My eyes were like I couldnt believe it! We started messing around through lanes; and when the road opened up, we took off again. this time we were next to eachother at about 70 mph. my foot slammed the gas the instant i heard that G. we got stuck for a second, and i pulled another car length and the G let go. Later as he cruises pass me, and he gives me the hang loose sign. In both outcomes, i pulled 1 car from around 70 to about 120mph. I'm still shocked 2 days later, cause the superleggera has 532hp and weighs only 3k lbs., but is an all-wheel drive. All i have to my car is k&n's and star lowering. I'm thinking the G didn't know how to drive(but both runs were the same outcome if side-by-side), or the E55's are underrated. I noticed the G shift a couple times(which i believe takes off a few tenth of a second between shifts), were i only shifted once.

AWD is a real power-killer. That's why Audi's are so slow despite looking good on paper.

If you have 500hp but you get 30% driveline loss, you are up against a case of diminishing returns. A lot of the Gallardo owners who start modding wind up converting them to RWD. You're lucky you didn't run into one of those.

No offense to gameover, but if I were in the Gallardo, I would have gone straight back to the dealership. I know the E55's are fast, but there is no way an E55 should be hanging with a Gallardo, even if from a roll. He has about a 70hp increase and a 1300lb weight advantage. Again though, it just goes to show that anything can happen on the street. Nice runs.

AWD cars shine from the dig, but are "pigs" from a roll. Nice run

Nice gameover! would have loved to see that. I had a similar run-in with a middle-aged man in a brand new Carrera 4S last week on the Edens (94) headed North out of CHI. He had no chance. If he's smart he should have driven straight to his Porsche dealer and upgrade to a Turbo. Can't see why you'd spend $90k+ for a car with under 400hp...I don't care how great they sound/handle lol.

560-4's kill!!!

I can totally see this happening, nice kill. At any given moment on the street its all about conditions, timing, being in the proper gear, driver skills, etc...

In a controlled enviro like a track, with equal drivers- things might be different. For the mag boy in me, what does the Super run in the quarter?

High 11s, 120+. Not too shabby. I am surprised at this pull, maybe the guy was not the best driver? I can see it, but damn embarrassing for the Lambo, ha.

Here's a time slip from drag times:

Trust me guys. At first, i wanted to see how much faster it was than me and if i can even keep up. The second run, i had all the confidence. It was like a boxer that got knock down and swinging his way back to prevent from another knock down, and then; BANG, dropped again!

Thanks 120+ traps are reserved for stage II and above usually at the E55 level but this wasnt a drag race. Thats why I love the 60-130 timing that so many guys at 6speed online follow and use.

Dragtimes has several Gallardos running low to mid-12s. Good job running with an exotic.

I'm curious how the AMG's stack up to the competition.

Vic do you have one of these timing devices?
