Sounds like the guy installed some cherry bombs.

Would really be cool if he jacked the rear end up half a foot.

those are NOT gutted mufflers...they're open pipes! gutted mufflers sound as good as any high dollar system i've heard with the exception that they don't drone like those systems do.

Hey Mikey, do you know if there is any HP in gutting the mufflers?

Damn...................

So I wanted to do electronic cutouts until I heard this. I was going to do gutted muffler but liked the idea of having best of both worlds. Flip a switch for noise and flip it back to go to normal stealth mode.

I really think the open pipes should sound like gutted mufflers as the gutted mufflers i have seen don't have anything in them to reduce resonation. Unless the U pipe really impacts the sound that much and the muffler also not being the same diameter.

Wonder if he had something else going on.

the type, design, and placement of the crossover will definitely have an impact on sound. keep in mind that it's not just the packing inside mufflers that affect sound, but also the shape, size, and design of the chambers which for the most part are still intact after gutting.

What is everyones opinion on gutting... how does it sound... Its a heck of a lot cheaper then a full system.

My buddies RS4 had something similar to what you are talking about.,.. I think... On the steering wheels there is an 'S' button that when you push it it opens up some exhaust flaps that make a good deal of differance in sound... they are great cars. I kick him in the nutz everytime I see him since he sold it.

Personally I think the stock setup is way too quiet, I like to hear my car working and I feel it gives you better 'feel' for driving the car - being able to hear your RPM. With the stock setup I find myself actually checking the tacho when I am 'up' it. I like the sound of gutted muffs and am 99% sold on getting this mod done. My only reservation is for resale - if I needed to return to stock it would mean either sourcing a set of OME muffs (hard) or getting some aftermarket ones which you then have the problem of getting the tips sorted. It has been posted before but this is the sound of gutted muffs and res delete:

I should say Aleks I didnt mean to offend with this post - I looked at your other vids where you obviously dont have the cut outs running and I think it sounds great

Edit : PS nice burnout

Just did my exhaust, I drove one day without a cross over and it was terrible, harsh on the ears. Next day I finnished the system with a cross over and put the tips on and was amazed at the diffrence. a good 10db less. so much better.

Sounds like my dads 1978 pickup. He had an exhaust and a ZZ4 engine put in.

Hell, maybe even worse a tractor. One of the old Massey Ferguson.

That was cruel punishment for that E.

In fairness to Alexs (who posted above), he must have done it for a gag because if you check out his other videos (on youtube) it doesnt sound like that.
