Question for people with painted black grilles
I'm thinking about doing this but wanted to get my facts straight. Did you use MB paint or just any "gloss black"? What was the process of painting it? I won't be painting it but I'd like to tell the person who is, what some other people have done with good results. Feel free to post some pics as well. Thanks

If your car is not already Black, then there is really no need to go with a Mercedes Black paint code...I had a body shop paint mine, but that is because I know the quality of work is excellent and they are very well priced. Unless you have a pro-spray gun, the DIY will not look nearly as good and may have the slight or severe "wrinkle" look or effect.
That being said, it is probably the most common thing most people comment on my car (always positively). With the amount of Chrome already in the Mercedes headlights, the Chrome Grille is overkill IMO...

Not sure how much the grille alone was as I had several thing completed at the same time (badges, side markers, grille and they also aligned my car as I had it lowered).
The shop info is below...Ask for Anthony and tell him Mike w/E55 referred you (maybe he will give you a discount).

HMS did mine in 019 (Obsidian). It needs to be re-done with a good year of raging on it. We did kind of a rush job at the time since I needed to spray and run. I still haven't had time to go back and get everything wet sanded?

My main concern is the grille looking awkward as my car is already black. Is it necessary to get MB paint or would a regular gloss black suffice?

I took the chrome front off of the gloss black plasitic backing... scuffed it with a scotchbrite and the painted it gloss black but used a satin clear coat. It is a really good looking contrast from the statin black grille and the gloss black plastic backing.

Nice, do you have any pics of it?

Sure do. It is hard to see the contrast in pics but it looks sick in person.
