I got my E550 in 08. One year after it dropped for $36k the E63 at that time was an extra $20k didn't see the need to get that. Everyone else was getting an 03-06 E55 for like $22k n I didn't want to go that old. But no badge I got it. Saving up for that 2010 or better ML63 now

Mercedes dealers are even worse then GM with the "SS" badge. And boy did GM ***** out the "SS" name. At least with the AMG badges it's dealers and *** clown owners not corporate.

There's a clown in an S550 with S63 AMG 6.3L badges running around in Canada, Ontario, GTA area (closer to vaughan). Spotted on the 400. If your reading this, you can probably fool people as foolish as you but that's about it.

If you want to own an AMG then buy the car not the badges. If you are rebadging then why not go all out and call it a space shuttle and put NASA badges on it.

If you go to the MB USA site you can "build" your own car and nowhere on there does it state you can upgrade any car to an AMG. You can buy the rims and other "accessories" but you cannot upgrade any model to an AMG. If you want an AMG you simply buy one so anyone badging a non AMG car as an AMG is posing and or dreaming. You may as well call it a Lamborghini or Porsche as they have about as much in common. If you're going to dream then you may as well dream BIG. How about non AMG cars badged as AMG's being called "Super Duper nitrous burning FUNNY cars that turn on a dime".....

1999 E55 AMG
By Chris Woodyard, USA TODAY
Rather than fork over big bucks to get high-performance versions of sexy sports cars, some enthusiasts are trying to get the bling without the extra ka-ching.
They are going to dealers or online auctioneer eBay to buy emblems in hopes their cars can masquerade as versions that would cost thousands more.
"It happens all the time," says Myles Kovacs, president of Dub magazine, which follows car-customization trends. "People want to live outside their means."
Cruising the streets of Southern California, officials at Kelley Blue Book, an auto-buying service, say they've seen Mercedes eight-cylinder coupes rebadged as 12-cylinder versions, a sedan with emblems that would make it a coupe, and fake high-performance AMG or Brabus models.
Occasionally, cars will change brands altogether. "We saw a Ford badged as an Acura. We were dying," says Kelley Blue Book spokeswoman Robyn Eckard.
Online auction service eBay says it sells about 15,000 items a month in the automotive emblem category.
Automakers acknowledge the practice — and don't seem to mind.
Mercedes owners can buy the lettering indicating their cars are the high-end AMG version for about $65 at a dealer's parts department. Chrysler 300 owners who want their cars to mimic the Hemi-powered 300C can buy the insignia for about $12.50.
Replacement is generally easy — just a few minutes with a heat gun or hair dryer and dental floss to remove the old one, and some tape to attach the new badge.
At the nation's top-selling Mercedes dealer, maybe one or two buyers out of 100 will ask to have their car rebadged, says Garth Blumenthal, general manager of Fletcher Jones Motorcars in Newport Beach, Calif.
Yet even with the new badge, diehard enthusiasts can't be tricked, because clues such as exhaust pipes or wheels give them away. As for BMW owners who hope an emblem will turn their car into the performance division version, "You can't fool somebody (into thinking) it's an M3 or M5," BMW spokesman Rob Mitchell says.
Some high-performance companies, however, draw the line at helping people fake the credentials of their wheels.
Shelby Automobiles, the car customizer made famous by Carroll Shelby, turns down dozens of requests a day to turn Ford Mustangs into the Shelby Mustang that it built as a promotion for Hertz, President Amy Boylan says. She says she'll only sell approved parts, not whole kits.
Likewise, Mustang hot-rod rebuilder Saleen won't sell the engine compartment plate indicating the car is genuine.

And the E550 in 08 was still $50k. So yes in 08 I could have got an 05 E55 for that price. At dealer auction you can get an 06 E55 for $15k - $19k now. So your car (guessing its an 06 with less then 55k miles) may be worth $26k but that's only on paper. No one or dealership will give you that. (N this is me still guessing that you have an 06 with less then 55k miles.

I personally think putting an AMG badge on a non Amg car shouldnt be as frowned upon as it is made to be, i think trying to pass your car off as an AMG special edition (I know the other poster was being sarcastic) should be frowned upon because it's not and I have seen it plenty of times , I just believe that if it has the AMG sport package, and the AMG wheels. , and the Agility package , you should be able to put an AMG badge on it, it's not called the AMG package for nothing, Just the other day I saw a 2012 CLS550 with an AMG badge on the back ON THE LOT, so the dealerships are doing it too.
If you put an AMG badge on a non AMG car, you are posing. End of story.

Agreed! Like someone said before. No hand build high performance engine, no AMG badge. Plain and simple. My ML has all the cool AMG looks including the wheels, but the engine is not hand build and of course does not have the little plaque on it. It is not an AMG even though it might look an awful lot like one.

That's so stupid you could never call them Porsche or Lamborghini cause the full AMG kit is not any of those. If you have a full AMG kit on your E class then keep the E whatever on the left side and add AMG on the Right. As for AMG style. If anyone is to stupid to understand that then that's your problem. I have a 07 E550 in the shop right now getting full AMG body put on n if I feel like adding amg to the right of my trunk I will do that. I won't be posing because it will be clear that its an E550

I have a simple question. Why do you want the AMG logo on an E550? The people like us on the boards will instantly know it is not an AMG. Most of the people who don't know the difference, don't know what the hell and AMG is anyway so what is the point? I have a suspicion as to your motives, but I am not going to jump to conclusions.

just because you put a body kit on your car doesnt make it an amg.... heck they have ferrari F430 kits that fit on top of a pontiac fierro.... guess that's cool in your book too, since after all, it is a ferrari BODY kit so that transforms the pontiac fiero into a ferrari F430 because its all in the body kit

Nor did I.
No issues with customizing your ride. Most of my mods have been power related, but i am all about making the car your own. Go for it bro. It sounds like your E will look very nice.
Yes you can, but it doesn't make it an AMG
I sincerely hope they do.

calling a NON AMG a AMG (by putting a badge on a car that is not built by amg with amg engine) is no different than slapping a lamborghini badge on an AUDI... hell lambos are made by audi and the gallardo's actually even have the same audi engine as the audi R8 so that;s even less posing, so using your logic audi guys can just slap lambo badges on our cars and not be posing ![rolf](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)

Yes sir, Cause you guys are going hard after people for doing ***** to their cars that they paid for. Like I said its clear putting AMG on your car does not make it an AMG engine. But putting an AMG kit on a car makes its AMG "like or Style" that's why I say leave your other badges on the car.
