I cannot see the harm in what people decide to do with their cars .If it makes them happy good for them , it is just like other people buy fake sunglasses or fake clothing etc .
I drive an old Mercedes slk 230 , I see fakes around and I just dont care. Just my opinion .
I don't get offended when I see cars with fake badges (AMG on non-AMG, M on non-M, Mercedes badge on a Honda, etc). I just think it's funny and don't understand why people do it. My thinking is this: the person putting an AMG badge on a non-AMG car knows that it's not a real AMG. People who don't care will just look at the car and go "oh you drive a Mercedes". They probably don't even know what class it is. The enthusiasts who do care will take one look and be able to tell that it's not a real AMG. So what's the point?
My E55 and SL55 are both badgeless except for the bonnet nose. I removed the gunsight from the E55 and replaced with a flat badge. The glaring Merc propeller in the SL's grill has been replaced by stainless mesh. Mercedes do not pay us for advertising.
My neighbor has a last gen C300 and C250. I never looked at them when I was driving my 5.0 but after bringing the E55 home, I notice them a bit more. Over the weekend I saw the C300 has an AMG badge on the passenger deck lid. Oh man. I wonder if he feels weird now that I brought a real one home lol.

You should ask him about it. Make it really awkward.
One of the worst offenders that I have personally witnessed. Quick back story, I took these pics at Houston Cars & Coffee (Memorial City mall) on November 2018. The owner even came early to park in the display section! Did he think people were too stupid to notice??
Wrong, "everyone" does not know it is a Merc. Even if they did why should I brag about it? The cars look better without badges. I had a 575 Ferrari which was also de-badged and it looked awesome. The F-chat forum members were aghast but then most were posers anyways, never ever taking their cars to redline on their way to cars and coffee.
Everyone knows that the heart of every AMG is the engine. So next time, ask the person to pop their hood.
Nine times out of ten, they won't do it, as they don't want to be called out.

The only people that have any idea what Mercedes are, are people that drive them.... and people that drive BMWs but witsh they drove an AMG. I had no clue what any mercedes model was until about 6 months before I got my 55. The only reason I discovered them was because I knew the SRT6 had a Mercedes motor, so I began looking into them.... then I found out they had some V8 forced induction motors stock!
I was once rear ended by a lady. She got out and said... oh my god is your BMW okay? (true story, also, it was fine)
Since I have been going to the drag strip I have seen ONE other Mercedes. An old diesel car of some sort.
Seriously, the only people that know what these cars are, are us.... and maybe the people that I destroy at the track who look it up afterwards.
So you saying, that imitation is the fondest form of flattery. Personally, I would have like to see that the only way, to acquire an AMG badge was thru the dealership.
And you had to show your vehicle registration to confirm that you do in fact have an AMG to buy one.

Ive known of a 2015 Lexus GS 350 that is now accustomed to what an E55 can do to its driver self esteem on a Sunday morning while the AMG was driving to church! 😄
Most drivers have no idea, I myself was gonna write mine off and was gonna get a late model E63 S before learning of the Beast potential capabilities. No more inferiority complex! 😁

Except none of those add-a-badges are coming from a dealership. Ebay and Alibaba FTW.
