The block I have has been nickasil coated. The Wiseco`s have a coated on the skirt but do not know what kind of grey colored coating is on them. Wiseco wants me to send pistons back and have JE (sister company)build the new set. They did not say if that was in exchange or just pay more $$$$.

They do seem very short handed and slow to respond.

I was recomended to buy this block from a board member on this forum... He has not returned my calls for help with Wisco or emails that I know of. He bought them and would have better luck in getting them returned. This member has done a lot of work with Wiseco, as I understand it.

Wiseco said they do not have a die to forge pistons for our car`s top guided block (afterthought) .. We need .795 and they just use .995 standard for thier pistons. Although they were helpfull with info, they were not in correcting the mistake. Their records even showed that we had a .785 rod but still made the pistons .995

Not sure where to go from here. After hearing this mistake, also wondered if they made other mistakes on the piston. They did spec well for the bore but not sure about the other specs..

PTE,, may I ask when you had the custom wisco`s made? Mine were made june 08, unless they just sent yours out again.

coating on skirt no problem, but you MUST! have rings compatable with nickasil
clyinders.chances are wiseco didnt get that right eather.try (preision products) to make two piece bushing for rod small end and be done with it.try JE or CP for rings.
hope i have at lease helped in some way,but i am bailing on this fourm.

Thank you for your help and quick replies. I did my research on nickasil and wiseco rings before buying the block. The piston design was over my head and I went on help from the forum members. I thought Wiseco had come a long way since my old motocross days of the 70`s but I guess they went backwards due to economic reasons.

Below is from thier site and also checked the ring part numbers to make sure they are Nickasil compatable. I guess without checking the chemistry, then at the end of the day, not 100%.

All Wiseco rings can be used in cast iron, nickel ceramic platings (Nikasil), boron composite, and Electrofusion bores.
CAUTION: With the exception of the XJ rings, Wiseco 4-stroke rings can NOT be used in chrome plated bores.
Engine damage will occur.
*XJ rings are designed to be used in chrome bores.

Would anynone know if you can run stock pistons and rings in a NIKASIL plated bore verses the stock ALUSIL bore?

So you found lower compression forged pistons and forged rods for our cars for an affordable price?
I am sure others have researched this in depth but from my small amount of speaking with block specialist, it is easier/less expensive to go with domestic.

In other words, have a custom crank ground in California (for a 4" stroke), some of the best block sleeving people are also there, JE pistons (up-sized to 4"), manly rods and ARP hardware. you then could use all readilly available sleeves, pistons, rods and hardware. Depending on bore lenght , you could go with a 6.0 to maybe even a 6.5 litre engine and use all domestic parts. My rough guess, is that 8k would be in the range for the whole block , plus final build time..
