AFE Air filters?

I'm also into high HP diesel motors with a ton of torque and I've always used AFE filter over K&N. As most know diesel motors sucks in a ton of air and filtering is very important to help protect the turbo. In the diesel forums many frown on using K&N filters and heavily favored AFE. My own personal experience with AFE has been excellent, I have over 50,000 miles on my truck with AFE filters and have never had any issues. In fact I would take a white cloth after every cleaning and wipe the intake tubes down. They have always been very clean and I was never concerned about dust and particles getting in. I haven't tried them on my MB yet but my next filter purchase will be AFE.

BTW...diesel motors suck in tons more air when compared to our MB's.

They also have the option of going with a Pro Dry Filter which needs no oil.

I've often wondered about the "K&N look-alikes" (e.g. BMC, aFe, etc.) vs. K&N's... thanks for your feedback! Ever tried a foam panel filter (e.g. itg)?

I've used a ITG filter before. It worked great. I used it for about 20k miles, until I went big turbo.

My carbonio intake came with it, AFAIK Carbonio uses ITG for most applications.

Never tried foam style filters as I've always been happy with the traditional style filters.

In the diesel world a high percentage of owners stayed away from K&N due to filtering issues. Right now I'm using green filters because that's what came with my Renntech airbox but after reading several issues about these filters I'll be switching to AFE's. Just like on my diesel, after a few months I'll do the white rag test on the TB opening and see if any dirt accumulation has developed. I'll report back with my findings.

Plus one on AFE. Better quality filter and they use Polyurethane seal over the light duty rubber K&N seal.

Bassn and others, I went to the referenced site. Will the air filters for all e classes be the same? I didn't see a choice to choose which type of e class. I want to purchase for my '05 e55.

I noticed that to and I was trying to research to see if they would work. I listed the year, make, and model for my car and that model type came up for our E class. Hopefully someone else could come chime in to let us know.

Going to autozones site, I chose the k&n for the e55, then a k&n for my e500. The part numbers were the same for both cars..Also- the k&n's are only $38 shipped to the store here.

Here's a link to autoanything.com: http://www.autoanything.com/air-filt...0A3095461.aspx

It seems like they will fit our 5.5 motors. They list 2 per kit.

Most likely, I will go w/the k&n's for now at $37. I've never had issues with them. I apologize for going off topic.

<edit>Ordered the AFE's just now after looking at reviews online and heeding your advice<edit>

thank you

I got the AFE filters a few weeks ago and they were very high quality. Much better then the pos green filters and the decent k&n's that were in the car previously. I will keep it updated. By the way- I ordered them from "autoanything" and wouldn't advise it. It took almost a month to get them.

+1 on the AFE's I bought a set for my 600 they were wrong fit, (for E55) I ended up giving them to Max55, they are the best quality aftermarket airfilters I've seen, think they were about $100+ shipping...

Cost me about 80 shipped for both. But took almost a month to be delivered.
