Wheel Wax
Hey all,
Has anyone tried Wheel Wax or any other product to reduce brake dust? If so how well does it work? Maybe list what product(s) you have used and give a grade from 1-10, 10 being absolutely amazing!
Thanks,
- Paul

The absolute best way to reduce brake dust is to get ceramic brake pads. My wheels look a million times better since I went with ceramics and they are alot easier to clean.
As far as wheel wax I use Poorboy's World Wheel Sealant, but Wheel Wax is also very good.

Personally, use 'em both, and like 'em both. IMHO, Wheel Wax is more of an AIO wheel product, whereas PBW Wheel Sealant is essentially just an LSP for wheels.

I'm not really looking to go out and buy a new set of brakes, just seeing if anyone has found any other worth while products.

Hawk HPS literally give off almost zero dust. Axxis Ultimates are ceramic and they dust significantly more than the HPS.
The best wheel protection is by far Nu-finish (an old detailer's trick). It may be a 25 year old product in an ugly orange bottle, but nothing else provides the level of protection that it does b/c its not a wax its a polymer. Put on 2-3 coats and it will last a year easy (just don't use any harsh soaps when you wash your car, and don't take it to any car wash places b/c their soaps strip everything off the car). Meguires Carwash solution with built in carnuba is also good on the wheels once you've applied nu-finish for even more protection.

I had axxis ultimates on a bmw and it didn't 'bite' as good as a daily driver. the car still stopped fine, but there was a slight loss in performance. I'm sticking with stock on the benz.

Please keep in mind, Ceramic pads are meant to work at much higher braking temperatures so you do loose initial bite, but once warmed up, they are extremely powerful. Hawk HPS is a much better street pad than the axxis ultimates and they dust significantly less.

Thats great, but I drive my car on the street so that initial bite is what is important. I went through the hassle to ditch the brake dust before and on the bmw the wheels were much harder to clean so it was worth it. My wheels are stock so five spokes are simple to clean and stock pads are great for me.

Are Hawk HPS ceramic brakes made for the CLS55? Where can they be bought? I'm looking for something that will eliminate brake dust, but not sacrifice performance since this is my daily driver.

According to their Hawk's website, no. And according to their website, HPS and Ceramic are two different products. It's a choice of either better stopping power or less brake dust, but not both.
People have posted using Porterfield R4S pads. Less dust but still good bite.

Can you copy and paste their weblink? I can't seem to find it. Thank you.

Poorboys Sealant buffs out easier and last longer and with no chalky build up. I own a Brabus style rims and with all the intricate details on it, the Poorboy product does the job better.
I will however look into ceramic brakes next time. The stock brakes just make too much dust, but with the sealant, they come off easy.
BTW, are there any bad effects to your rotor once you change to a ceramic brake? Thanks.
