So the 55's don't have MAF's, do the 63's??

never really had any problems with k&N just take them out of the pack and let it sit for a few hours.

Installed K&N filters, CEL P0170 popped. Took the intake apart and reseated everything. One drive cycle later, CEL went away. I confirmed the code was stored, cleared it and will wait and see what happens. I believe I must have had a leak caused by incorrect installation. I had K&N filter on my CLS for two years with no issues ever.

This thread worries me a little. I've been bored......contemplating what to replace my recently departed SL with.....and ordered K&N's for the E63 yesterday.
I'll be sure they are dry before installing, hope for a few ponies, and no CEL!

i had a similar issue, reoccurring CEL which grew more frequent after some hard driving, dealer replaced intake gaskets and PROPERLY torqued intake, apparently it wasn't done properly from the factory, and with enough use the problem showed up. apparently common after timeOriginally Posted by lexaltezza
Okay I've got an update. I took it in to the dealership to have it looked at. They also came to the conclusion that they are getting codes for an air intake leak. However, after inspecting everything they suspect it is a bogus code. They did however, find a service bulletin related to this issue and it recommends re-sealing the intake, at least that is what I was told. I'm going to take it in soon and have them complete this to see if it fixes the CEL. K&N filters or not, it is unusual for this to happen immediately after installing them.

A) turn key to position 2 and wait at least 30 seconds.
B) turn off
C) turn car on without accelerating ... After 30 secs turn off.
I'm not sure it these instructions are real or mere snake oil, but no CEL on mine.

Been using K&N's for the past 10 years myself. E430 S500 and now E55. As one member stated wipe down the excessive oil from the filters let "air dry" in the sun for a few hours flip let them soke up the sun for another few hours, lightly tap them to make sure fully dry. Install and Enjoy-
However if you DO not follow those easy rules you will get a CEL along w/false codes. Speaking from experience-
This is why I run paper filters when I'm cleaning mine so that I don't rush it. Same rules apply when cleaning them. Don't over spray the oil aka drown them.
*If you do need to clean your MAF you can buy CRC MAF cleaner - spray and let air dry / done-
Also the MAF is designed to get extremely hot to burn off and contaminants.

ExploreThis topic has been discussed many times before and I thought the final word was that E55's do NOT have Mass Airflow Sensors. I just checked AllData and couldn't find it either. And I know this post is originally about a 63 engine but theres a few posts about 55's too. Just wanna clear this up

Nope. They weren't soaked in the filter oil though.Originally Posted by nizzle

My K&N filters arrived Thursday, installed them on Friday.
Quality looks excellent. I did however place them in the oven at 170 degrees for 2 hours and then left them in the sun outside for the afternoon. Touched each side with a towel several times over the course of the day to remove the excess oil, they were pretty well oil saturated from the factory. Once the towel was clean (no pink spots) after touching both sides, installed them.
No codes and my car has never run better.
