I use Mobil 1 0W-40 usually. You could also use Castrol Syntec 5W-40 which is also very good and is used by some dealers.

are the holes close enough that I won't need 2 separate pans? Can't remove oil through only one hole?

the holes are not together if you do not use two pans, you will need 1 big pan... I assume you can remove 1 plug at a time, however i have 1 big pan, so i drain both together...

u have to remove BOTH drain plugs to get all the oil out. one is on the front driver side of the pan, one is on the rear of the pan. you can remove them one at a time

Noob question, which oil filter is most commonly run? I found out mobil1 does not make one, so i'm either going with K&N or Dealership. Thanks.

Don't mess around with anything else other than oem filters. There are all kinds of discounts on the net. BE SURE to replace BOTH drain plugs and washers guys!!!! They will leak if you don't change the drain plugs or at least put a thread sealant on the old plug!! I am just concerned getting any of the sealant in the oil itself as it threads through.

I don't think the drain plugs need to be replaced as they're made out of steel. I did put new washers on this time only because I found them for 25 cents apiece, but last time I just reused the old stuff without issue. With copper washers there shoudn't be any need for sealant. As far as oil filters go, I used an OEM filter this time around, but last time I used a Fram filter with no problems. May as well get an MB/MANN filter and new copper washers if you're already spending $70 on 9 quarts of oil.

Per MB N. America, the drain plugs should be replaced. See post #17 here:
https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...need-help.html
I didn't replace them before and they did leak even w/ new washers. The plugs were only a buck and change each if I recall correctly. I've never had to replace plugs on other cars but do it on the E55..cheap insurance.

I also had a leak after reusing the old plugs. The new plugs will have some type of sealant already on the threads. So, save yourself the trouble and $ and replace them like mentioned.

I reused the old plugs and put a small dab of thread sealent toward the end of the tread, Its just the way I did it with no leaks.
