1000 mile Break-In

Guys - picked up my E63 a few days ago..how real is the 1k break-in period - no sport mode, nothing over 4.5k rpm etc?

Also - can someone please tell me how to download MP3s onto the music registry - read the manual 100 times but the function to copy does not highlight when I put a disc is to copy

Thanks

The engines are mostly broken in at the factory, but the break-in period is still required for tranny, differential, etc.... It is hard to get a definite answer on this issue: some people have hammered their cars since day 1 while others followed the break-in period thorougly and both sides show that their cars are running perfect.

By the way, I thought the break-in period is 1800 miles not 1000?

MB_Forever, where'd you get that 1800 number from?
AFAIK, it's 1000 miles.

I was fairly easy on the ML63 during the break-in period.

I would break-in the baby for 1000 miles. That equates to about 15 hours of driving. Why don't you go away for a short 3-day weekend trip? You'll be able to enjoy your new car while breaking it in the proper way.

I could've sworn somebody posted their break-in sticker where I saw 1800 (maybe it was km instead of miles)

Either way, I've seen it done both ways effectively

Thanks Guys..appreciate the info..the long trip scenario is the best but time is limited (we just had a baby) thats why I got a 4 door "sedan" so I can put the baby seat in..dont think I can wait till 1k miles - everytime I'm driving some poser is trying for the title...

Just picked up a fresh '09. The sticker (on the windshield) says to gradually increase load after 1,000 miles.

Nice...... congrats man..... I know you've been waiting to strike for a while

You couldn't have picked a better time. With the release of the W212 E63, this is absolutely the best and most optimum time to buy the W211 E63 at a great deal

tore off the break in sticker, drove it easy in s mode for a long trip 300 miles very soft then gradually gave her a little more work a little more gas she liked so buy 700 miles i was letting the tiger out of the bag and just hung on for fun. 5200 miles she is beautiful no loss of oil no smoke just the tiger ready to play.

'09 E63 AMG sedan (sold); E36 M3, E90 M3
nice to see other noobs who also scored on the last of the '09's! I got mine (brand new '09) for $27K under MSRP.

ditto the how do you download music to the hd question.

I have been moderate on the throttle, but HAVE used S since nearly day one. i try do some engine braking in M mode from time to time. I have always read that city driving is better for breaking an engine in that long highway drives at steady speeds.

Part of me want to beat the tar out of it, since I wont own it after the 4 yr warranty (sh'd be traded in by then)

landcruiser and cls
the instructions for loading to the HD are in the manual. Not too hard, but I needed the instructions. I love the slot for the card to. Lots of buttons to push to get to the "copy to registry" menu.

I'm wondering now when I'm going to change the oil, I'm at 1100 miles now. I figure I'll change it at 3k? and then go till 9k, the first scheduled service? I'm not sure.

any advice?
