Best Bang for $50,000
If you had 50,000 to spend on a car which would it be?
I am looking for a used high performance car. Was looking into a HPF M3, Audi S5 (only because of looks), 996TT, c6z06, M5, M6, CLS55 and anything else you guys believe is good and why or why not. THanks!
Want to try to spend about 45k but 50k is max. Besides wanting a fast replacement for my e55 there aren't many other requirements. THanks!

996TT + K24/16 package, now going for 10-12g or so for 560-600awhp with 560-600awtq is one street beast. M3 + HPF Stage 2 and up is another beast. Stage 2 pumps out 460rwhp on pump, 550-580rwhp on pump + methanol and a max power of 630rwhp on race+ methanol. The Z06 most likely will be the cheapest hp for the dollar, get one and SC or TT it and you have monster power right away. Is your E55 modded, what happened for you to want to replace it?

For the most balanced performance i would suggest a 996T with a Titan or Boost logic Turbo kit and supporting mods. A 600whp on pump 996 is a deadly machine. This is the direction im going in for a second car as well.

You should be able to assemble a low 11-second turbo on pump, high tens on race gas within your budget.

depends how handy are you with engine issues..
with boosted cars, you will have your share of engine issues and you will need to know how to fix some things on your own.
If you want to have the best possible car with the least hands on involvement.. I would take the Z06. Add some light bolts on and you have a super car and keep some cash.
The 996 TT, or M3 boosted are great cars.. but it takes time to get them dialed in. Even after you have them at a good setting, you will want to change other components and its never ending.
Now if you have some mechanical skills, I would choose the car that can put the power to the ground on the straight and on the curves. Having 600 RWHP on a M3 is nice.. but you will have problems putting the power down.

I would try to get a 65 of some sort. Also, you can get some F355s for the high 40's and low 50's if you wanna go with a Ferrari. I think they are absolutely beautiful. It would be a shame that my four door sedan could smoke it, but man, what curb appeal!

CL65 is the best bang for the buck. Pick one up for 45K and have 5k for mods!!
GL finding a 996 for 50k with any mod money left.. 65 will give the best bang and value for the buck..IMO

C6 z06, blows the others away in my opinion from a performance viewpoint. The tt porsche is great as well but it will be an older car and will have high maintenace costs. I've also never personally liked porsches and have never understood the fascination with them. Yes, I have owned a 996 turbo.

i see the most preferred is the 996TT. I would go with a z06 but I dont know about going from european to american. I dumped my e55 because I was at 115k miles and it did not have any performance mods. Are z06's really THAT great?

Wanna know what's funny to me? Of all the high performance cars I've owned, my favorite (and not really high performance or close to exotic) are my Honda s2000's. The cars that I have owned w/gut wrenching acceleration are a properly setup DSM and the king of the hill, the Supra (nothing else compares straight line for the money if built correctly).
I would argue against the cls55- I prefer the 600's or 65's for potential, plus you already have a 55k.

I've owned three Corvettes, one heavily modified C5 and two C6s. Now I have a 996TT.
I prefer the C6, by far.
But the 996TT has one thing the C6 doesn't and it is a requirement for me.
AWD.
The C6 was a summer far. Period. Dangerous in the winter.
The 996TT is a year around car. I have snow tires for it and I drive it every day.
Still liked the C6 better.

STI with a Cosworth motor. Pick the WHP you want. I personally had been for a ride in a 700whp STI and it is the second most mind boggling thing I've ever felt sitting down.
You cant go wrong with a 996tt though.
