Replacing air filter-- yes i've searched.

Dealer just quoted me $500 to change the air filter on my e55.
Yeah, right. i'm not paying that much.
I searched for DIY threads showing the procedure, but came back empty handed. Can anyone point me in the right direction??
Thanks.

You just need a #20 or #25 torx driver to unscrew the screws. Swap filters and screw them back in.

Did they give you a break down of parts/labor. I think book time on the filter replacement is .6 -.8 max so maybe 100 dollars max. depending on the labor rate. Working at a dealer myself im ashamed at this est. I think we do them for 200-250 max. so i would shop around. On the 55 motors you dont nee to remove the box completely, remove the 8 t-25 screws and unclip the top of the air box , just be careful of where it meets at the throttle body there is a clip on the top and bottom and needs to be depressed or it will break.

Do you want me to take video of what to do? I won't remove mine but I can prob post it this weekend. I recommend aftermarket filters, but if not- just go to mbenz part counter and ask for replacement air filters- they will ask for your cars vin. The filters for my e55 and e500 are the same btw. The quote on the shocks sounds typical.

Cost:
Filters about $90 if you get the AFE's (highly recommended) and cheaper if you go OEM from the dealership.
Star/torx bit ($2)
Power screwdriver: ($20 or $2 for a manual one)
Time: 20 minutes w/manual screwdriver or 5 minutes w/power

Get the AFE filters here:
http://www.mbpartswarehouse.com/part...668+11920+9157

you will need 2.

Thank you VERY much. This was an excellent break down of what to expect.
a video might not be needed .. cough, i hope, cough
It'd be great to have one for the record and perhaps post it in the DIY thread for all the E55 newbies.
