It is very extremely rare that someone would not be impressed by the level of torque and power of the 55k engine. If you're not feeling that instant jolt of power and especially torque, then the car is definitely not running optimally.
As others have mentioned, the stock IC pump is not very good and is very popular for failing intermittently (in some cases without codes). If you check the pump and find that it's working fine, then there maybe something else more serious preventing the supercharger from engaging

Umi...how much due diligence did you do before you bought this car? I don't care how much I love a car or think the price is too low to pass up...I'd still do a VIN check (at the very minimum) either via websites like Carfax (or the European equivalent) or even just through your local MB dealership to find out the work (warranty and non-warranty work done on the car).
Well that is enough of my high horse...
1. Invest in a CM30 pump.
2. Find an independent MB tech shop ASAP.
3. Heat soak will always be a problem with your car...an upgraded heat exchanger is a way to help...and is a must if you mod.

I had a '02 RUF 550 Rturbo and an '06 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S both with 550+hp and I was impressed when I drove my friends E55. What are you guys driving that makes an E55 not feel fast? 1000+hp vipers??

I have a 600ish whp awd dsm and have owned 700+ hp cars int he past. The e55 is still very impressive. Anyone that says they aren't is either named Jay Leno or Schumaker (spelling?)..

I have a 700rwhp mustang, and as mentioned, the sl55 felt very flat. torquey down low, but thats about it. from a roll I thought a clk550 was pretty much the same in acceleration.

E55 AMG
I feel that the E55 is really fast as standard, it will not be embarrassed by any other standard car including exotics such as Gallardo, F430 etc, (when it comes to speed/power).
To the OP, No standard Cosworth is as fast as the E55, I had a stage 3 saff myself.
Some of the guys have advised on what the problem may be, unfortunately here in the UK these cars are not popular so you need to be looking at finding a good specialist Mercedes garage or as a last resort, main dealer.
As for noise, they are not loud at all and bad fuel consumption is to be expected from a 5.4 ltr supercharged V8.
These engines are solid if maintained properly, check the history, @ 100k it should have lots, if not, change i/c pump and give it a full service, if that does not make a difference sell it and get a good one!![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

a Rivera...via a Custom 24, Strat and Les Paul
a good friend of mine drove mine (hammered it is more like it) and he said it was fast - his daily drivers are a SRT8 and a F-16 (still trying to drive the latter but for some odd reason the US govt wont allow it).
