Re rear reservoir...

So going down this road as I have nothing to do at the mom and was wondering if a plastic water reservoir was ok to use? How hot would this coolant get? Are we talking boiling point? I think boiling point would trip the S/C shut down right?

As long as it is below 80deg c the tank is fine according to the manufacturer.

Its a qtr of the price of a fabbed up ally unit and lighter so maybe try this out?

Any thots?

Many radiator tanks are also plastic so i think heat isn't an issue as long as the container is made for it.

But, consider chemical constrainst, too depending on the coolant you want to run. Last thing, pressure. A typical plastic setup has a pressure release at some point.

Worst case.....A hot tub in your trunk

water temps won't reach much more than 100f on a working set up.

Look for threads from SneakyNeon. He has a plastic tank and it works great! And cost close to nothing other than time.

as long as he separates the cooling completely from the main overflow there will not be much pressure in the intercooler cooling system ....therefore it's called the low pressure cooling system by MB. a plastic tank should be fine.

As stated above, mine is plastic, from a marine supply store, it had threaded fitting already in it. I then bought a fuel cell cap for it. Mine is vented so there is no pressure. From what I hear a pressure set up cools better but have seen no data to support this. The cost of my tank was around 40.00 bucks. If moneys not an object for your project then there are better choices.
Good luck.
