Tranny option summarized?
OK, so we were getting into the tranny before when MHP crashed the wave, so I thought we would regroup and get a feel for what is out there and what directions and possibilities we even have.
Obviously the TCU tuning is intriguing but i just here very little feedback from anyone that has a setup or is working on one.
The Valve body. What can be done and what does it do? mI am not looking for a drag race setup car, so no line locks, etc. I also don't want high stalls, etc. But I do want snappier shifting and if the valves help, then I want info!!
Tranny fluid and mounts. When to change and any aftermarket options?

Doesn't the speedshift give quicker/firmer shifts? Benzgal??? Mike???

The only problem with this is that you need to spend 2k plus for both the ECU/TCU. If Renntech was to offer the TCU as a stand alone product more people would consider it...IMO. Great marketing from their perspective but for people like myself it leaves no options.

Access to SpeedshiftII would be wonderfull - giving m1 and m2 modes. There was talk of this being offered on the forum but it died away?
It was offered by AMG as an optional item on new orders in 2006. I don't know of any E55k that has it though?
My EGS from Kleemann is on it's way back to me right now - so I might have it tomorrow. I'll report back on it asap.
Lets face it we have a slush box. It's a strong unit, but will never shift like a manual...

Increasing line pressure, whether that is through a tune or by modifying the valve body or replacing them will increase shift firmness and quickness. Contrary to popular belief, this is actually better for the life of the transmission as well.

good point I agree...I didn't know there was a TCU tune for 55K cars even available? Is Renntech the only one that offers it? I'm wondering if PC can do this in addition to tuning the ECU...

what do u need to do to get a TCU tune from Renntech and what does it do?
is it the M1/M2 AMG program?
do you need to ship TCU?
Thanks

As of know it seems that Renntech is the only one that has is dialed in. I've driven in a car with speed shift and it's really nice, but not 2k plus nice. PC also offers a TCU but from what I hear it compromises the daily driving characteristics that we all love about our cars, most causing abrupt and aggressive shifts.

As mentioned above, the Renntech speedshift is not a stand alone product. The last I heard is the ECU/TCU come along as a package.

they offer speedshift as an upgrade with their ecu tunes. it's not speedshift2 so doesn't give the extra m option. the programming is done through ecu tuning. the best way for me to describe it is that it's not harsh but a much more positive shift. there's no longer that lag between gears during acceleration.

Speed shift cant be installed or sold separately. Speed shift involves some writing to the ECU and TCU. So if you had a non Renntech tune it wont work. Just what I'm told

I'm working on something right now to improve the shifting on our cars. If all goes well I'll have some info to share sometime in the next couple of weeks. From what I'm told it's somewhat of a progressive system that keeps daily driving shifts good while at WOT the shifts firm up. It will be very cost efficient and install is only couple of hours.

chiromikey, when did you ditch your custom LET dyno tune? What were you dissatisfied with that you decided to go with Renntech? PM if that's more appropriate.
