I'm sold on the engine. Might as well put down a deposit now..

By the way, here a picture of the front of the 5 series gran turismo, which should give a general idea of the overall appearance.

No, and that's why I wanted to know if anybody else heard anything.

Here's his post: "You don't want the 2011 M5/M6 trust me. The motors have been ingesting themselves since day 1 of testing and continue to. The placement of the turbos in between the banks of the V8 is plain stupid (great place to put HEAT) and ultimately limits the size of the snails you can use."

Then he was asked about his source and he said it was a "direct source."

But what deaguero just posted is what I'm talking about...

The new M5 w/550+HP and 500lb/ft torque at 1500rpm sounds AWESOME. That would get me out of MBZ in an instant unless they had something even close.

the placement of the turbos in the valley is to totally eliminate turbo lag. The M engineers would only use turbos if they could stick to a non turbo feel and they have done that. the m engineers have over 10 patents on the new TTV8
Very trick teck and revolutionary design. Since there is a patent no one will be able to copy this design for 7 years unless BMW gives them a license to use it which i dought. Cooling was definately an issue but they should have it under control now. The cooling system on the X5m is amazing. It has 6 or 8 radiators. I forgot the exact amount I read. The bumper everyone is saying looks terrible on the new X5M is designed out of neccesity to keep it cool. I saw one in person and behind every opening in the bumper is a huge intercooler. Before you guys make fun of the X5m bumper just think about our E55s that can barely keep our stock engine cool. I wish amg did have more cooling and a cooling freindly bumper on our cars like BMWs do. Its function before looks.

it will be interesting to see what amg does with the turbo lag in there TTv8. it will definately have more turbo lag than the m motor. I wonder how they will combat that. Thats why I love the E55 supercharged V8 instant power. I never liked the 600s and 65s becasue od the lag

"Heat in the valley"

According to Andy, it was because the two turbos are placed in the valley of the V generating huge amounts of heat. Does anybody know if there's any truth to this? You'd think BMW would realize if it were an issue and never design it that way in the first place(?)

So Andy must not like the 320 bluetec with it's turbo in the valley as well? They seem to work just fine.

I know Andy always says he happens to know everything but what's the deal here? Any truth to it?

unbelievable that someone would question his integrity...lmao

Really? If it makes 500lb/ft torque at 1800rpm, that doesn't really indicate much lag IMO. That's a torque curve that's as large and flatter (starting earlier) than the mighty E55!

Now someone just gotta design a street-tire thats capable of holding that kind of power. It's hard enough to get traction on the E55 during a launch.

True true, we're approaching the traction limits of any reasonable tire under the 300-size, and even then it'd be tough. Given the weight that has to be moved and the small contact patch, it's all smoke unless they made the M5 AWD...

Talk about pissing off the "///M purists" even more...

That quote above is about the AMG TTV8 Thats not out yet.
The BMW M TTV8 has eliminated the turbo lag by putting the tts in the Valley and by a new trick patented exhaust manifold. That motor has 500lbs of torque basically right above idle.

I was saying I wonder what type of design the AMG TTV8 will have and how they are going to combat turbo lag. No one knows or has any Torque or hp graphs and has no idea what the new amg motor will do.

Im not sure what you were trying to say by your post. The new TTV8 by BMW does have a torque curve that's as large and flatter (starting earlier) than the mighty E55 but we dont know what amg is doing yet

Wow, twin turbo and twin-scroll technology too!! BMW go all out on this one.

I'm suprise BMW didn't go with front mount air to air intercooler.

Im glad they didnt, this will alow the aftermarket a way to keep it even cooler.having 2 heatexchangers and a huge intercooler in front will drop iats big time.

I just hope they used a seperate tank for the heat exchangers.

You mean a huge heat exchanger in the front and 2 intercoolers?
