Swore off Mercedes but ended up with another one. This time an E55
I had a Ml320 that was such a service nightmare for me that it gave me a sour taste in my mouth towards all mercedes vehicles...
For my personal car, I recently decided that wanted something with a little more "umph" than my e46 M3 that i was currently driving and did a little discovery as to what cars were kicking it's a$$... and i came across several videos/discussions about the e46 m3 vs the e55/e63 and well...i was impressed with what i saw so i decided to go check one out.
When I got to the dealer and saw the silver one.. i fell in love at first sight. It looks elegant, but mean and growly lol. I told my wife... if this thing drives even half as good as the m3, it's mine..
I was not prepared for what was in store when I got behind the wheel for the test drive. i still get giddy thinking about it. lol.. but lets just say it well exceeded any expectations and im the proud new owner of a 2006 e55 sedan.
whether it ends up being a service nightmare... that remains to be discovered. but at the very least, i still have factory warranty through mb and plan to purchase an extended warranty.

The early ML's are the worst... Every time I would take my car in for normal service. They'd have an entire service lane filled with ML's, by 8:00 AM.
On a positive note, I'm on E55 #2, and both have been great cars. Very trouble free.

ok im hoping so. i only have a few complaints so far, but they're minor.
#1 would be the lack of bluetooth connectivity
#2 would be the early morning cold start whine that seems to disappear after a few minutes. It seems to have been discussed on here and the general consensus is that it's normal i guess.
but it's a killer car. i loved my m3 too, but unless you were driving it hard it really drove like crap. so it was not practical in any way. not to mention that i got approached by every "tuner" brat in a 5 mile radius at every red light.
those same tuner guys dont even approach me in the e55... or maybe they do and im just so far ahead of them i dont realize they're "trying" ? lol

I love those wheels. They truly are the perfect car to be comfortable in when its needed and to stroke your ego when needed as well. I don't think I'll ever sell mine. Maybe if AMG starts using the 55k engine again down the road I'll pick up one of those. I don't know. I can't live with out 500+ ft*lbs of torque anymore.

Welcome back.
I did the same. Swore off MB because I was sick of the service costs and BS and drove, cough, cough, a Lexus and then an Infinity before coming back. If it weren't for AMG's I'd still be driving something else.

Congrats and welcome to the AMG family, the E55 is an unbelievable car
Mike, what's the latest status on your car? How far are you in terms of stages and how much longer do you have before you beat Alan?

Welcome!
Any chance you are in Washington and bought the car from an auto broker up in mukilteo ?
I bought a silver 2006 from them in March and saw a similar car up there recently.

Thanks!
Thanks everyone. Sorry for the delay in responding.. I was... well you all know what i was doing with my new toy. lol!!!
It's truly an amazing car. Im hating that little squeel when I first start in the morning. It goes away after a few minutes, but it's annoying as heck!
Yeah I love the wheels too. I need to replace the tires with some better ones. Whatever was put on there was pretty cheap and whenever i accelerate hard from a stop.. it fishtails in the back a bit.
Any recommendations for good tires to use on this beast?
I'm not even sure where to begin on mods. I think it's more than fast enough.. actually i haven't even been able to really open it up. It takes a blink of a eye to get to the speed limit.
The closest i've been to "pushing it" is on the tollway.. where other AMG drivers make it a point to appear in front of me and provoke me to play tag with them. You know... around the obstacle course filled with all the other vehicles that are standing still... or are they standing still? lol <evil laugh>

i'm very happy that she's as into cars as i am though. her 335i is quick and handles better than my m3 did. but man... my car is on a whole new level.
