Widest wheels?

Hey all. I'm doing some research on wheels for a W211 E55 and am wondering from you experts what the widest rim width is that can be put on an E55. I understand that offset is key for clearance, so details regarding that are also appreciated.

I see most wheel/tire packages using 8.5" widths in the front and 10" in the rear. Is this just the most common or is this the max? Could you bump as much as 10" in the front and 12" in the rear without running into rubbing issues?

Also, what wheels from what other Merc's fit the E55's? Will SL, CL, CLK, etc. wheels all cross over just fine with fender, brake, and suspension clearance or are there just a couple choices that will work?

Any and all help is GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!!

The max I have seen are 10.5 in the rear. I tried 11 on my E55 and it did not work, it rubs. Your safest bet without rubbing is 8.5 front and 10 rear. If you want to push it, 10.5 in the rear will work. Really the only other wheels that will work are E-Class regular and S-Class depending on the wheel and thats about it. The SL and CLS and CL and some S-Class are low offset in the rear and will rub for sure.

Thanks for the info guys...great stuff!

So as I'm browsing around, wheels that are said to be CL/S compatible will most likely be those low offset ones that will rub on the E, right?

Are there any other popular "between model" wheel swaps out there?

What size wheels are you plannin on going with? My first set of HRE's were 20x9F and 20x10R. No rubbing what so ever. My second set of HRE's were 19x9F and 19x10.5R with no rubbing either.

If I'm not mistaken, you can use CLS / SL wheels if you use one size narrower for the tire in the rear.

I think the widest wheels you can run is 9" up front and 10.5" in the rear. Im running a set of wheels that where from a SL Im just using skinny tires the offset is extremely aggressive but no rubbing yet.

Correct! 275 is max. Also, there are multiple ets ranging from 27 to 33 for the CLS / SL chassis.

Which SL? If they are currently et33, you can shave 4mm off the inside and they will hold 295s with no rubbing at all.
