Rear Brakes - Looking to purchase - Need advise

Hey all, just picked up an 03 E55 from a fellow forum member. The car is SICK and I have only had the pleasure of putting on 800 miles or so.

Question as I have searched the forums and still remain unclear.

1. Where to purchase rear rotors and pads
2. Where to purchase sensors for all four.

The front rotors, pads have been replaced but the back, (MB is telling me) needs new rotors and pads as the "Visit Workshop" light is now on.

They are quoting me 700.00 total. I think I can purchase the parts myself and take to an independent shop for less, no?

Thanks guys!!!

where are you located?

and yes, you can take it to an independent shop. just make sure they specialize in MB.

Rear rotors are $100 each, then you have a large selection in terms of which pads you want to run. The OEM pads are $92 for the pair. You only need one sensor for the rears, and it is $8.

Let me know if we can help, we also stock akebono and EBC brake pads.

Thanks for the advise, I am in Milwaukee.

James, are the rear rotors cross drilled? Regarding pads, what do you recommend? I would prefer the less brake dust as possible, any specific recommendations? Can I purchase the sensors from you?

Thanks much!!! I appreciate it...

Akebono's for the rear if you want a great pad with no dust... the EBC's will be slightly cheaper, but will give slightly more dust then the akebono's.

Yes we can sell you both the pads and sensors along with the rotors if you'd like, but I'd suggest just getting them from your local dealer as the shipping cost will out weight the savings in price. The rear rotors are cross drilled.

Cool, thanks for the advise. The indi shop said they could "salvage" the existing rotors, new ceramic pads and sensor for 450.00 - Good deal?

Our shopping cart feature is not setup yet, however if you give us a call tomorrow before 3pm pst I can get the pads and sensors sent out to you that day.

$450 for pads and sensors is way too much, that price should include the rotors.

I think their quote also includes labor to R&R the existing parts. I don't know what the standard labor time allowed for the rear brakes is, but done correctly, it's about a 2 hour job, maybe a bit less if you rush, since the calipers need to come off in order to replace the rear discs.

I am going to swing by the indi shop tomorrow and get a requote. I want a breakdown before I submit my "new to me" car to them. (they are legit, lambo's maz, ferrari's all over) but still want peace of mind.

I'll give you a call tomorrow.

Thanks much!
