Thoughts on exhaust, help out!

Ok here's the deal. I want an Eisenmann, Supersprint, or Tracer exhaust and no one has one for sale.

I met some guy out here in LA who says he builds custom exhausts for high performance cars. This is what he wants to do to my car (05e55):

1.Take out secondary cats and replace them with x pipe
2. From x pipe, he wants 3in straight pipe to the stock resonator.
3. Out of the stock resonator, he wants to run 3in straight pipe to a Y pipe in the back saving the AMG quad tips and out the back of the car.
4. He says if its too loud, hell throw in, in place of the original mufflers, two high flow resonators (one on each side).

He promises that the car will sound like a Ferrari and he claims we'll get 20 ponies out of it. My main concern is the sound. If we get any extra hp, great, if not no big deal.

Interesting proposition, good price too, what do you guys think??

You will gain power because of the x pipe. Everything else will be just for sound. I doubt it will sound like a F car

Agreed. I have high doubts on that as well. I'm just afraid of the dreaded American muscle car gargle...

If you don't like it you could always have him throw the stock mufflers back on after the X pipe. The secondary cat/res delete with an X pipe is quite popular. If its cheap enough why not try it? We all might learn something.

It will be VERY loud, and it will sound like an american muscle car.... if you want to try and get a good sound, without breaking the bank, try just some new mufflers. It will be louder, but not obnoxious.

^^^ What he said.

I think it's cool that the guy sounds excited about trying new stuff on the car and isn't satisfied with just the "same old" bolt-ons. I don't like his Ferrari sound claim though. Very misleading sales tactic.

what did you say the price was??? I just had my secondary cats and resonator removed and replaced with 3" straight pipes. AMG mufflers are actually pretty good so I would leave them. I don't have the "gargle" but it is definitely a little better than stock. This can be done for 400 bucks or so.

So it shall be done. I'm hooking up with my boy over at DC for a dyno. After we'll drive the cars over to get the exhaust set up. I'm down to experiment if it'll help the forum! I'll post pictures and a sound clip, if it sounds good. If not, I'll be back looking for a used Eisenmann.

O.K so mine is secondary cat delete, resonator delete and I have the 3" straight pipes and not the x-pipe. Sounds a little weird b/c my car is out in the shop so it's echoing a bit. Also, this is at the family farm and there is some loud motors running in the background. Enjoy....

So whats the difference in using an X pipe and just running straight 3 inch pipe?

No prob Vazha, glad I could help you out.

Andy, I have my stock mufflers and primary cats. The secondaries and resonator are gone.

Emoving, all kinds of debate on here about the x-pipe giving more torque and the straight pipes doing something or another. I don't think there is any real measurable difference. Definitely sounds better tho.

I'm going to dyno the car this weekend hopefully. I've got rez delete and LET tune. I'll dyno before and after straight pipes and I'll post results. I'm in it for the music, if I get any extra power then all the better!

Me too on the music. I am not really a racer. I just want it to sound good. I have a pully and a tune from Jerry as well. I am supposed to pick up an 06 so I have not installed it yet on my 03. Dyno numbers would be great just to see if it affects anything which I would not think it would. That dyno would help me out just to see! Thanks bro!

I don't think I noticed any "gains" by doing this but it was worth the money for it to sound better. Also, inside the cabin I have no drone and I was quite surprised at how quiet it was on the inside. At WOT it's pretty sweet.

Do you know anything about the Tracer exhaust? Heres a you tube clip. Sounds like hot sweaty sex to me. I'm in contact via email with the owner. He's in Asia on a trip and I'm waiting for some more info. He says he can put me in touch with his Germany store but shipping would be astronomical. I've got family in Munich but I think a weekend cruise to their Reno store would be more fun! Let me know what you guys think about the sound, group rate maybe??
