200mph Speedometer??

Did some searching but haven't really found a definitive answer.

First, how many owners of '03 and '04 owners have replaced their speedo with a 200mph unit?

Where did you find a new unit? Cost on unit and install? If you did it yourself how big of a pita was it?

Personally, I find it to be a bit pathetic to have a speedometer that reads a maximum speed that is shared by the one on my Nissan Murano. But that's just me personally and, I'm a total sucker for asthetics.

I know there are a few aftermarket companies like Brabus that do it but I'd rather not ship it them and wait however long to get it back...

Any info would be great

Thanks in advance!

Steve (MbenzNL) can get you a gauge cluster from a CLS63 that looks pretty good and fits well in the E55. If you want one from another E55, you'd probably have to wait for someone to part out a wrecked car. If it's from another 55, I think the install would be really straight forward with no other work needed.

I had asked about putting in a cluster from an E63 but got mixed answers; some think it won't work.

If you look up user MJ50 he has a CLS63 cluster in his E55 and has pics of it up in his gallery.

Is the cluster a direct swap? Any programming required?

Hopefully MJ50 reads this, he would be able to answer that.

Be careful putting the cluster from a '63 in your '55...it's been known to slow the car down rendering the move somewhat counterproductive

I believe that a brand new cluster was necessary for the install of a CLS63 cluster into the E55.

I'm not sure if you can put in an old cluster. I think it has something to do with the programming. Therefore it may not even be possible to use an old one from a wrecked donor car.

When Steve installed my new CLS63 cluster, it was a new one. However, I can always go back to my old E55 cluster.

Some pics can be found in this image intensive thread:

t-bone, off topic but your interior is plain sick! I dig it

Thanks for the info. Looks like the CLS63 cluster is the option to go with.

I'll try to get in touch with Steve and see what he can do as far as getting one for me and how I would go about getting it installed.

Appreciate everyone's input!

E55 then E63, now back to an E55
It seems that with all the silly debate between older 55s and newer 63s, people have failed to mention that you could use a gauge cluster from -- 2005 or 2006 -- E55's (that still read 200mph)

Same car so less hassle, problem solved.

Just wondering why you think it would be less hassle?
