$25k sounds huge to most people, but after running the numbers, I'm not sure that's such a great deal. The depreciation on high end cars is huge and has been for the E63 even prior to the introduction of the new body style. Now I can only imagine that the already high depreciation will accelerate. At about 25k off, I figure the car will cost $1k/month in depreciation over 5 years. If I value my cost of money at only 5% per year, that is an additional $290 per month in money cost, for an ownership cost of roughly $1,300/mth. I saw a lease quote on a new E63 of $1,500/mth...that sounds huge but when you pencil the numbers, it may not be much more than the cost of owning the older model and then you don't have the hassle of resale and you get to drive the latest and greatest. Any comments on my back of the envelope analysis would be appreciated. By the way, I love the car!

E63 AMG
+1
I always try to get cars for myself that are 3 years old for that exact reason. An 07 will still have some warranty left which is always nice.
2009s are mid 60s
2008s are mid to low 50s
2007s are in the 40s
For me personally this would be an easy choice. Good luck.

I've considered waiting until the spring to get a used '08 but there is little selection unless you want black or are willing to search the whole country and ship it. I've crunched the numbers too and the numbers are hard to justify unless you buy it and run it to the ground. Even then it is an expensive proposition.
For me, the two reasons I'm looking to buy new now is for improved selection of models and the pull forward program.
