check your larger pulley for wobble!
I have heard members being told that it is ok for a pulley to wobble at idle and that with RPM it will smooth out.. This is flat out BS and an optical illusion that is causing damage to your 48K motor.... If it wobbles, it is tearing main bearing apart and causing all kinds of harmonic balance damage. Our outer S/C ring on our crank pulley is pretty far out past center and any wobble is amplified from this extra leverage..
I included a picture of the VRP pulley for example, as it is in this style dsign that is causing wobble. Not sure how many MFG`s use this style and there are ways to make it work but the VRP did not display any.. At least the one i had checked (only 6 months old)..
First the pulley in the picture is made from a stock Mb pulley and that is a plus. (IMO).. Bolt on outer ring is also nice but here is where it all went wrong..
First, the pulley is not balanced (no balancing holes).. This is part of the issue .. Not sure if it was save money or just missed in the design.. Second, it is alsmost impossible to bolt an outer ring onto another ring with multiple holes and stay true.. It will always have some elipse to it , unless the parts are machined to inner lock and then bolt together.. This design failed to have that and thus wobbling pulley`s and stress on seals, bearings, crank and all internal rotating parts..
Check those pulley`s!

Looks like pins but they are still the same as drilling holes.. You have tolerance issues and end up with elipse shape.. Some may be round/true but the odds do not favor a drilled and none balanced part..

my pulley is done the same way as stock but it is bigger.
they use the OEM inside pulley and bolt, but remove the outside pulley and get a bigger one. welded the same way as stock is. rubber and etc.
ni wobble @ all.

I have only used ASP pulley`s on my cars and SUV`s.. None have ever failed or wobbled and that is why I keep going back to them for all my vehicles`s pulley`s.. I am sure others have had simulair experiences with their favorite pulley.. Either way, just make sure they run true.. I hear that 8-10 thou. of run out is ok but that is still really tight..
Oh yeah, I have also been hearing that ASP has been making some huge custom S/C pulley sets for the 55 S/C engine.. Must be a bunch of sneaky MB members out there..lol
I am thinking of going larger pretty soon too. Others may stay quiet but I will post my results, after I go larger..

I've talked to Lee a couple times and I was actually entertaing the idea of testing out a bigger pulley and having them make it for me but I was out of time and most likely they werent going to have it ready for me by the Famoso event that past.
I really do wonder what sizes those sneaky MB owner acutally went with and the results they had. I look foward to your result's Brooke

Anyone find any crooked pulley`s in thier recent inspection???
