Is this repair manual + diagnostic kit off E-bay good?

That's what the Star Diagnostic System (SDS) does, which has a sticky thread here: https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...ts-o-pics.html. I think it reads the ECU at least. I don't know if there are any other ways. That system is like 500 bones, tho

I just thought of something that's critical for you to use the manual on disc. I don't think the eBay listing mentions it. In order for this sucker to install correctly, you need 1) Vista, 2) 25 GB+ available storage, 3) a dual-layer CD-ROM drive w/ latest drivers, 4) late version of Java, 5) Internet Explorer. Definitely let us know if you have problems w/ the install. It comes w/ very detailed documentation. The problem is that the details are sometimes wrong and require interpretation/guessing. Also encountered at least one undocumented problem, which was solved by running it as the administrator. Anyway, give it a shot!

Since the manual is covered and now that you're just looking for a way to connect to the car's ECU, I'm going to say that system will probably get it done, but THAT'S JUST A GUESS. I'm unfamiliar with the SDS, so I'll have to defer to someone who knows more about the system. Can anyone chime in?

I believe these systems were originally designed to be used on a dedicated laptop. I have the WIS DVD's and instructions specifically say that unless you want to risk corrupting your OS, you should install this on its own dedicated computer, like they have at the dealer.

Guys, I just wanted to warn you that the manual that's being discussed here will only work for a limited time. I just checked my license and it's only good for ABOUT TWO YEARS. I checked the eBay listing and it doesn't mention anything about limited usage, so I'm pretty pi55ed. I contacted seller and she used some total fallacious BS arguments to say that she had done no wrong. She was kind of a b**ch about it! Anyway, only get this if you are OK w/ it only lasting two years and if you’ve already gotten this and are surprised by it, contact the seller and raise some hell!
