Does anyone know whether I would gain or lose traction/handling performance going from:

18" Continental Contact Sport tires 245/275, to
20" Michelin PS2 255/285 tires? Many thanks. I think I finally found my perfect wheel!

In my opinion any wheel should accent and flow with the natural lines of a car. They should not over power, clash or draw attention and make you focus on the wheels.

I have had 7 sets of HRE wheels- from silver, to brushed, to black, to charcoal. Excellent looking wheels with great fit and finish. Their service is 2nd to none in my personal experience. I would go with HRE again and again. You get what you pay for and right now you get HRE wheels for some pretty good deals. Several wheel stores have posted their stock here.

Here are a few pics:

Thanks man, actually the CL was arguably the most striking visually but it just had nothing in regards to driveability for me. Going fast in a straight line is only good for so long.

I cant seem to find pics of that car with the brushed HRE's and Im not home to pull them off my home computer.

Hi guys. Thanks for all your great feedbacks. I've narrowed down my options to either M47 brushed or M47 brushed with black windows. Sorry for one more question:

I want to get 20" wheels for sure, does anyone know if I can help protect these wheels by changing suspension to the softest setting when going through pot holes? Many thanks.

Do not hit potholes. It has nothing to do with the suspension setting its the size of the tires sidewall. Go with the brushed face and chrome lips for sure

You can change the setting to whatever you want,,,,,,,if you hit a POTHOLE with 20s, you are probally gonna do damage!

Black 19" HRE 540R I just sold. I went with black 20" Iforged classics now. I've had 3 sets of BBS wheels, 2 sets of Iforgeds and these HREs. Honestly the HREs were a bit soft, but they looked great and were very light.

Personally I’d go for the polished lip, easier to polish out minor marks. Chrome once it’s marked requires a repair.

I have a set of HRE’s - 546R and I went with a brushed and clear coat finish for the center and with polished barrels. I like the way the brushed aluminum finish looks on wheels, it gives it a much richer look. Color for wheels is very subjective and although the wheels look good to some in black (or other colors), to some they might not do so well. Just go with the color you like since it’s your car and you will have to drive it and not the people here.

Here’s an example of my HRE’s on my 500E.

I know black rims on black cars is the happening thing, but that Smart does look good. As does the E500, great taste all round.

If this thread is not enough to prove that black wheels look inferior to wheels that shine i don't know what is.

Nicely done.
