AFAIK on cold start you have a heater pump/blower that groans quite bad. It's needed to heat the cats up quickly. I think this is the noise you are hearing. It goes away after about 30 seconds or so.

Also I don't think the S/C engages when the car is in any other gear than D... not even sure about R, have not tried a burnout in reverse!!

I had my oil changed recently by an MB tech who comes to my house in his spare time to do it. Best arrangement ever. Have his undivided attention and no flashing of ECU etc .... unless I want it. Also very friendly mod wise, and reasonably priced. When I had the change done (oil sucked out) it was plenty filthy... and the filter was pretty full too. One thing I am not sure about the suck out method is if you get the sludge at the bootom of the motor - that said the car was left running for quite a while to get to operating temps so it should have got most of the gunge.

I did not notice any different running after the oil change - perhaps its got something to so with the drain out method vs suck out?

Does the noise go away after a while?

Yesterday i swaped my engine oil and filter (after 4000 km), and now the engine oil pump noise (whine) is back (always, but more when cold and always just under 1700 rpm)). It will quiet down after about 2000 km (when engine oil thins to cca 11 CsT at 100 degrees from my opinion), just like at previous OCI does.
So now i am 10000% sure that this whine is not from tranny oil pump, but from engine oil pump.

Oil pump noises posted on that board that i have found:

https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-a...se-engine.html

Wonder how myny new owners does that problem also??

EDIT: I know its an old thread, but i think that this stuff (pump whine with different viscosity oils) have not been discused enough.
