Mecum or Barrett Jackson auctions

As I sit and watcht these shows I often wonder if the E55 will become a classic exotic with the low production numbers and big monstrous engines - being deemed "the worlds fastest production car" back in 2003 has to mean something right?

What do you guys think? I mean I love the car and don't plan on selling it, but do plan on upgrading in a few years when the TT is released the 212 is refined a bit more.

Baldmike the only thing cooler than the E55 is your screen name.

Back on point. Yes!! I think the W211 E55 will be a "classic." and I plan to keep mine long time. This car represents what "AMG" stands for more than any of their other offerings. All car enthusiast know and appreciate this model.

Back off topic....sorry but every time I see your name, this is what I envision:

I think some AMG's will and some will not. Its going to come down to production numbers and how bad some one wants one in the future. I think first you would have to have Mercedes AMG to have some sort of a slump. Kinda like how the Gas issue killed the Muscle car. Mercedes AMG is getting around this "Green movement" with turbos in the future. So I dont see a slump any time soon.

The AMG Hammer is a sought after car and those go for big bucks.

Honestly, its very hard to say. I think you might see a low mileage RENNtech car being one thats sought after. Or a CLS Barbus rocket. But we might be talking 20 to 30 years.

I think some AMG's that came out before AMG was absorbed by Mercedes would be good candidates. Also some good candidates for collectors might be 190E Cosworth's and 190E EVO's.

A good rule of thumb might be.. When the car stops showing up on ebay every day.

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
Sorry, no.

There are just too many cars in the marketplace. Perhaps 20 years from now a super low mileage example might bring a big number, but much as we like them, the cars are just too ordinary to achieve that status. Drive and enjoy while you can, performance cars of this ilk are probably not going to be around that much longer.

Rock,

Where did you get my pic?

Well I hope that as the years go by the E55 will become more and more of a classic. I love the damn car and it still gets looks even though you are seeing more and more of them on ebay.

I could see it possibly happening with the 210 E55s as long as it was a very low mileage, all stock car. They only made 659 E55s in 2001, so that year is kind of rare. There were only 500 a year imported to the US each year, so it's not that common to see one around. I've only seen 2 around where I live (pretty sure one is a poser, haven't gotten a good look) and the other is pre-facelift that belongs to a guy that works at the MB dealer right by my work.

You're all missing the obvious. E55/E62 WAGONS. Very rare. Very cool.

Of course, none of us will ever sell ours
