So i changed my oil today

Hello all,

I just got my car not to long ago and wanted to change the oil. I did a normal oil change i drained both front and rear plugs. Put about a qt through the motor to clean old oil, tightend everything back up and fired it up. The car did its normal start noise like this car does http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAWmMDm7l0E at 0:40 but now it has a rather loud and annoying whine till 2k and then it wont make it anymore. It never did it before, has anyone have something like this happen or have any ideas?

what rating of oil did you use ? Did mine last month using 5w 30 fully synthetic (I think 8 litres) with no difference in sound.

Did you spill any oil on the belts whilst refilling?

Your post reads like you emptied the oil and then only put in one quart before firing it up. I am hoping you put in the required amount of oil and did not fire it up with one quart to clean it out ?

That's what it sounded like to me too.

One quart = death rattle.

u bought a 100k gorcery getter so why would u even bother doing the oil change yourself ??? Leave it to the dealer. go for the buck fitty .

I used 0w-40 mobile one synthetic oil. I used eight and a half qts before i fired it up. i spilled a little but am not sure if it made it on any belts. On the initial fire up the car was making a couple diff noises and then after a couple of seconds it all went away and now im just left with that whine noise until 2k rpm and then after that its gone or if the car is already rolling it wont really make the noise.

Really?

Some people are just DIYers. I know I am just because I can afford to get someone to do something doesn't mean I need or have to.

So now your car does the same whine at start up anytime before 2k rpm? mine only really does it when taking off from a light, if i roll through a turn slow it dosent do it really even if under 2k under anykinda load.

A noisy supercharger clutch pack is a common complaint for M112 and M113 Kompressor motors. On C32s (same basic powerplant, minus a couple cylinders) it's been diagnosed more closely as a failing SC pulley bearing most of the time. This bearing can make screeching/grinding noises at low rpm when the engine is under light or no load, because it's spinning. At higher rpm or higher load situations, the noise goes away because the S/C clutch activates and the bearing is no longer in use (IIRC). A mechanic's stethoscope can be a useful aid in diagnosis. Hope that helps.

Does the sound happen only when the car is cold and then go away when the car warms up or does it happen all the time under 2k rpm? The bearings are definitely something to look at..... maybe also the belt.

Mine does the same thing. When idling it makes a very similar noise to that of the supercharger but its coming from the bottom end of the engine. Noise goes away like you said around 1.5K to 2K rpm as I'm pulling away from a dead stop. I went as far as replacing my oil pump but the noise is still there.

here's what mine sounds like... I get the camera under the car around the 15sec. mark in the video...

Mine makes a similar noise at startup when cold and then goes away. I just thought it was the supercharger. Is the supercharger clutch engaged at startup?

If your noise is like Rays above it's totally normal.

Just the beast's heart pumpin. Mine has done that her whole life and not a single problem with her and she's packed with mods.

Bet you just noticed after the oil change as you were paying close attention.

Just my 2 pence.

The SC engages above idle speeds. I think it is about 1,500 RPMs. Maybe someone else can tell us the exact engine speed.

I think it has to be under load as well, not just RPM-based.

Mine makes whining/whistling noises when cold for about 30 seconds...its actually a pretty cool sound and nothing I've ever heard before. To me it doesn't sound like a fault but more like a turbine sort of whine. My neighbor heard it one day and asked me why its so peculiar when cold, I told him I'd show him.....cut to scene of wide eyed passenger.

Im pretty picky about noises my cars make and i pay very close attention, i dont know why all this happend after i changed the oil, did i tighten the oil filter to much haha?

The sound that i posted at fourty seconds in my first post is the normal start up sound, but it has gotten louder, and anytime before 2k the car makes that same kinda like groan or however you want to describe it.

changed the oil in normal washing station but used Mobile 1 0:40 and no sounds at all .. Going to dealer for major service "B" this week and they will change oil again, but at least I found out that the car was missing 1.5 liter oil and the oil was totally done when I changed it.
