Spare Tire
I was just quoted a price of $700 by MB to replace the worn out spare that I have.
Does anyone know where a more "economical" place is to get a replacement for something I hope to never use?

My German spec '03 E55 doesn't have a spare tyre (nor trunk fittings for it), and I'm told that it didn't come equipped with one from new. Can anyone confirm or refute this for me? I had a tyre let go last week - came clean off the rim - due to a crack in the alloy rim. Obviously, tyre foam etc couldn't resolve that problem!
Thanks, Ray.

You can retro fit one. Its very easy to do. All u have to do is buy a longer ground cable. Move the battery to the right side corner and figure out how to strap it down so it wont move. And the spare will fit in the wheel well just fine. I found one from another member for 150 shipped. Now i can drive anywhere without any worries.

This stuff might work okay but it causes issues if the residue is not removed by the tire company. The workers generally don't unless you stand over them and watch. If the stuff is not removed it causes balancing issues.
Definitely a cost efficient way to go....

[QUOTE=C32madness;3889282]Is that front or rear? I know the offsets are different so do one work on either axle?[/Q
The spare is meant to work for both front or rear wheels. On the full size spare picture i dont know.

Sorry to drag an old thread out of the cobwebs...just wanted confirm that a full size front wheel will fit in the trunk where the donut in my car currently resides, and the carpeted floor is still flat. I have long commutes and would prefer a full sized spare verses the limited donut my '05 came with.
Also, anyone know if an oem front wheel from a '05 S55 would work on a '05 E55? The wheel is 18x8.5. Not sure what the oem offset is...I think it might be either 40 or 45mm. OEM tire is 245/45/18.
Thanks!

i have the black donut w/the 05 E55. I took it out and got a full size oz botticelli 18inch rim w/Cont DWS tire as my spare. Cost $300 and more peace of mind having it in the trunk than the black one that came with it.
