E55 AMG
the hoosiers are dot rated for the street class but not street legal. the mt et streets and nitto 555r's are dot rated and street legal. the mickey thompsons are legal but be warned the tread pattern is barely enough if you get caught in a storm. nittos are much better on the road but more tread pattern less track contact.
its a trade off
another consideration hoosiers weigh 22 lbs and mt et streets weigh 29 lbs. nittos were mounted when i got them so cant say

Looking to also buy a set of drag radials and these are what I found online:
Nitto NT 555R
285/40/18 - $282
285/35/18 - $249
Mickey Thompson Street ET
265/40/18 - $250
The MT's are the only one's in stock right now. I would like them within a month.
Thoughts?

Tire rack also carries a 275/35/18 BFG drag radial which is also good. Nitto is a good street tire, it doesn't pick up rocks etc. It will also last longer then MTs. Going with a 40 side wall means a taller tire, which will make your gearing a bit taller and may rub if you are lowered

SL55 AMG
I bought a pair of 255/50/16 MTs on 16x9.5 CCW drag pak wheels, my custome set is made for E55 but I use custom billet spacers in the rears for the SL55 for a wider stance ...
Haven't tried these on the strip yet, last two track days were canceled in Dec for MIR...hoping to use them in the spring for the first time...Also curious to find out which is faster, the MT or Hoosier in the same size...
