Try as I may, I still don't see the big deal in what kind of car someone gets as a loaner. They're not paying for it, it's just free transportation for a day or two (or three or four). I always have to roll my eyes when I see someone get all bent out of shape because they have to drive a Chevy Malibu instead of an S600.

Think this would depend on your dealer. If they use MB for loaners or Japanese cars. The HOI uses MB for their loaners so if i ever get my first service it'll be a Benz loaner!

They have benzes and japaneese cars, and when they run out of cars they bring cars from budget.

I've gotten a Toyota and a Tahoe, so there is no telling, but I've seen other people get a Benz for loaner too.

Alfonso --

Who's your service writer? Mine is Cindy Lawrence, and the one time I've thought ahead to request a Benz, she made a call and hooked me up. Otherwise I've had to drive Camrys.

OT, I've found the Camrys uniformly to be PsOS. Why anybody would actually pay money for one is beyond me. People want to be on the bandwagon, I guess.

My service writter is Hannel (can't remember last name), I'venoticed they run out of benzes quick on mondays, that why I scheduled for the earliest possible and see if I get lucky enough, if not, next time I'll try to do as you did. Thanks for the tip.

2001 E55 AMG
What loaner?

I am not aware that my MB dealer even offers a loaner. Bloomfield Hills, MI is one of the most affluent communities in the country. Yet when I take my 2001 E55 in for service, they pile me into a ML320 'van' along with a herd of other people
They proceed to drop you off at work and will pick you up later when you call them.

All in all, I have been underwhelmed by the service department at the MB dealer. Last time I took my car in, then plugged 2 holes in my two front tires (for $70 - could have gotten it done somewhere else for $20) and left greasy finger and handprints all over my AMG Monoblocks.

My Endodontis has an SC400 Lexus. They come to his office, pick it up, leave him a loaner car, then return the car when the service is complete. No wonder people switch!

Not that I would consider trading my E55 anytime soon -- if they come out with something with 500hp and 500lb feet of torque I might consider it!

I don't think that's a very good idea for your tires, if it was a patch per tire it is ok once, but if the plugged one tire in two places that tire should be replaced. I hate pluging a tire because it always causes vibration, ohh and I can get a tire plugged in Houston for 5 bucks, discount tire patches the tire for free, even if you didn't but the tire from them.

My dealer does the drop off routine for short repairs such as oil changes, alignments, etc but for repairs requiring an overnight then an Enterprise loaner is supplied. A loaner is given even if you also request nicely for even a minor issue that waiting for would not be appropriate. No Benz loaners here. An MB dealership in Fort Pierce 1 hour north hires retirees to pickup and deliver and supply a loaner even for oil changes. They are a low volume dealer however and I would wait a long time if not forever for a new E55.

As for plugging the tires, $70 is ridiculous. Plugging eliminates the speed rating for the tire and IMO should be avoided for performance tires. Patching is the solution and should cost no more than $20 a tire. I can't imagine an MB dealer would actually plug an E55 tire.

And lastly, is 469hp (likely conservative) and 516 ft-lbs torque not enough reason to upgrade if the 500/500 benchmark is what you desire? The only problem is the current undervaluing of the W210 E55 and the W211 going at best for MSRP for at least 1 year. If money wasn't an object, get on the list.

2001 E55 AMG
1 hole per tire. I have since replaced them with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Great tires, not bad in snow either. Much quieter than the Dunlops that were worn out after 20k miles.

Unfortunately my financial situation is not as good as it was when I plunked down the $78k for the my E55 in 2001.

Just bought the wife a new Escalade, so as much as I would love to get in line for an 04 E55, it's not in my future for now. Of course in the 2 years I wait for the car I could be ready to go!

Well, it is a Camry. White camry, I picked the car at 7:20 am, he had other benzes on the lot, I guess he discriminates who he gives camries and who he gives benzes, a couple of nice looking ladies before me got benzes, an old couple just before me got a camry and so did I
Ohh well it is just for 1 day (I hope), and this camry is not that all bad, I mean it has 4 tires, an engine, a/c and room for 4 or 5

Good thing you dropped off an E55........
Had you been driving an old MB190 they probably would have downgraded you to a pink Kia Sephia.
