Track with drag radials, do you run in dyno mode?
I am getting excited about running the car at the track with drag radials this season. Up until now its been on street tires and the lack of traction is a killer. My question is for those that are currently running at the track with drag raidials....
Do you put the car into dyno mode so you can heat up the tires and run the 1/4 mile still in dyno mode?
What is your technique?
It just seems unsafe to run in dyno mode, given that it disables a lot.

The first time I went out with my drag package set up, I ran the car in dyno mode. This past weekend, I ran with just ESP off and it ran the same!

If so....
A burnout of NECESSARY. Ask the guys that were at the Famoso event this past weekend. I did a lil burnout
If you turn off TC, you should be able to hold on the brake, gas it and get the wheels to spin like no tomorrow. It should be a smoke show even if yer stock.

.....dumb question then. With street tires, I was unable to get a burnout, so I am assuming that with the DR's, its much easier with just the TC off? My car is far from stock, yet with the street tires last season at the track, I couldn't warm them up even if I wanted to. The TC is never fully disabled and it would kick in, and cut the power off.

never in dyno for me
After watching a mustang crash into the guard rails, I decided never to have dyno mode enabled when doing the 1/4.

I always run with the car NOT in dyno mode. Even more interestingly i have run my fastest times with the TC on. If you heat the tires up and launch this car correctly it will make no difference if the TC is on or off. I know there are other track gurus here that will agree.

I would have bet the bank that you needed Dyno to run 10's and 11's but ole Hammer and Alan continue to prove me wrong.
I can't wait to make it down to Sacto to try a run without dyno mode.
I guess the trick is getting those tires to really heat up and plant off the line. Once that yellow triangle of death kicked in, my runs were always toast (well any chance of records)

I honestly believe running in dyno mods is useless and pointless. There is no extra power to be had and our cars could launch fine with ESP on or off, that's a fact. I have ran 10's with ESP on and off and also dip into 1.58's on my 60' times.
BTW...Jim when do you plan on coming to Sacramento? You should come soon well the weather is still good. IMO 10's should be rather easy for your beast and if needed Ill have my drag setup on standby.
Just this past weekend I ran Mike's AMG's car at Famoso and got better times than Sacramento in 1000 feet higher DA. Due to Mike's burnout issues I ended up doing my burnout in dyno mode, come out of the box, dyno mode off, shut the car off, start the car, ESP off, and stage.....
I now launch with ESP off just for the fact that there's one less thing I need to worry about at the lights. Bottom line, either you hook or you don't, whether it's in dyno mode, ESP on or off it doesn't matter. Here's something else worth noting, doing that 1st gear slow long burnout is also a waste of time. It's all about tire speed and not the length of your burnout. I probably do a 4-5 second burnout and come out in 3rd gear. I dead hook every time.
