Akebono Euro is a MUST. I get those for all my cars. Been using them for years. TireRack.com has them also.

Hey TopGun can you post up a link for the rotors when you find the right price. I have the change mine and pads also but I'm importing the parts over here from over there as dealer price is about 5X what I can get them for shipped. thanks mate

Don't forget to cut your rotors so they are nice and flat before installing the new pads.

Only problem I have with Akebone pads is that they are NOT track rated. Granted, not many here will ever see the track, but it is nice to know that you don't have to change them if the moment arrives.

PS: Tirerack is the one that says "Not for track use" Not me.

I'll stick with my EBC pads for everyday use. REDS for the win!!

That is because they are OE replacement pads made by a japanese company. Not a track pad. You think their is a such thing as a dustless ceramic track pad? C'mon get real.

This! Not only is it for the flat surface but it's for the material of the new pads to adhere to the rotors during break in bedding.

Most places don't like to turn drilled/slotted rotors, because its a risk to their tools. Every time the tool passes over a slot or hole, it can hook, and break the cutting tool on the lathe, or even worse, it can break the lathe itself. This is why a lot of shops don't like to do it

and Some shops will not turn drilled or slotted rotor due to cracking on the slots/holes after they are turned.

not worth busting a lathe to most shops so they will just tell you to get new rotors when it comes to drilled or slotted rotors... so if you are not getting new rotors then just replacing pads will work fine... (yeah i know you might have to change the pads after 45K miles instead of 60K)

I'd rather have a properly bedded pad than new pads that squeak on used rotors.

I used to sell lathes and can tell you that anyone that tells you that should not be touching parts off of your car to begin with. It makes absolutely no difference whatsoever. I have also turned thousands of rotors/drums. No issues. Nothing gets hooked, the bit passes over a hole to the other side. No big deal.

+1 I've done a bunch of brake jobs, no issues turning drilled/slotted rotors.

How much miles did you have on your rotors when you did the pad swap?

one car at a time
I know this is going to cause quite a stink, but I don't turn rotors anymore. I never was crazy about the idea, as I hate to remove material from brakes. Now the OEMs are taking a similar position for the most part. The majority of OEMs are no longer recommending turning rotors for the same reason - removing material for no reason (pads seat fine) and if really needed, the rotors should be replaced. If the rotor really has a significant lip or is warped, then I just replace the rotors.

Why exactly??

MB dealer told I must replace my E63 rotors (@ only 19,000 miles) ... some stupid comment about being ceramic! - I cant trust him.

Hey whats the deal with the sensors during the front pad install, do you just reuse them, or get new ones? My akebono pad box has a photo of a pad with a sensor on it, but no sensors inside. I did a brake job for a friend's e320 and those akebonos came with new sensors.

WIS also seems unclear regarding replacement or reuse.

sensor is just a single wire in a loop which 'opens' when wore down. If your sensor is stil good, resuse it
