Dealer: $8k for new supercharger and motor mounts

Finally got my 19" Hankook tires and ready to mount them.. Very excited to get my 19"s back on.

took the car to the dealer for SBC concern on Wednesday morning.

I thought the pump was going bad.. and told them to check for other things.

Now they are replacing the Kompressor and motor mounts, other items. i told them to check if I have the latest Radiator, but the guy won't do it since I have the H/E. I explained to him that both items are not related. But no answer on that yet.

Not sure if they are replacing the transmission mounts, but I did get a new trans and tq converter about 18th months ago.

so far my car has received..

new clutch for kompressor
new shocks and struts
new trans
new torque converter
new supercharger

about $12k in extended warranty repairs.. thank GOD for Chrysler Extended warranty.

The issue with the kompressor was making grinding noise.

To be honest... my car was running fine.. I think the dealer is just juicing the system.

BTW: They also wanted $135 to flash my SBC unit. I told them NO! Not sure what they are smoking at Penske (West Covina)

Your SBC pump and software has unlimited warranty. There should be no charge for anything concerning the pump/control unit. Other parts of the system are under normal warranty.

10 years unlimited milage,,, but with there issues i can see them being changed for free for a long while.. What was there reasoning for trying to charge for the flash??? The unit needs to be flahed to get the opperation hours out of the control module If the opperating hours is expired you get a new pump

I'm going to do a search about the SBC flash.. i'm hoping its just deal with that system and does include other updates to the engine ECU.

I don't want to loose my tune.

BTW: I have ASP pulley and the only thing they have seen is my IC reservoir mounted by the aux battery and my H/E.

No mention about my car being lowered, no 2nd cats, no resonator or pulley.

Also, good thing I have not modified my TB with a grinded version...

My SA told me that.. if a inspector would of seen the mods for the IC HE.. he probably could of denied my claim.. but I'm sure the dealer needs the money and they won't throw away the opportunity.

I'm not surprised the Benz folks are working with you. An aftermarket warranty is like an open checkbook since it doesn't cost them anything.

Few questions:
- How is the service in Penske WestCovina ?
- How long takes to have a new Kompressor ?
- Did Chrysler send an inspector ?

I am looking a place who knows how to fix a E55, some indy shop only see 3 E55 in last few years... I used to go Mercedes of Anaheim but didnt have good experience.

On a side note, I didn't have a good expirience with Penske.

My parking brake went out and because I have aftermarket rotors, they denied a warranty repair. Now I have to find the parts and try to do it myself. They wouldn't even give me the part #s so I could purchase them.
Wasn't too happy with my SA either, even though he came reccommended from a friend. YMMV

Why do you think MB should pay for something you broke, you should be going after whoever sold you the rotors for your car. You can look up your own parts just google epc net.

umm, I did not break it and I fail to see where I said I broke it. Jump to conclusions much ? Unfortunately, it failed all by itself while I was driving down the freeway.

I was merely offering an opinion since the poster above me requested one. Since this is my first MB. I guess I made the mistake of expecting the dealership expirience to be different than other makes. {tongue in cheek} I mean come on, their espresso machine was out of order{/tic}

In this case, you should try a indy shop...

74K miles..

the actual amount ended up $6700, since I told them NO on brake pads and rotors (F and R)

Got the car back today.

My Service Advisor is Mike Dohla.

took 2 days.. weds to friday..

No chrysler inspector sent.. by thrs I knew I needed a new kompressor.

I like the service.. they always try to take your money. but if you know what you are talking about and know the parts.. I simply refuse their offers. Sometimes we owners know more than the SA.

I email my SA all the time.. he knows how I operate. He knows I browse the web for info.. so he just does his jobs and tells sell services for crazy amounts and my job is simply to accept work only under my warranty. The wear and tear items.. i can handle on my own through a family mechanic.

car is back.

clutch engagement is smooth in S mode.

power deliver is alot more linear and less "ON and OFF"

2 motor mounts replaced.. what a difference.. my stops dont have jerking involved and less vibration on the freeway.

I have not been able to run pass 3k to 4k.. since there was too much traffic on my way back home.

car feels solid and quieter...

The symptom was a grinding noise from the kompressor. The service invoice says the GEARING was coming loose.

I thought the kompressor was just noisy.. but I guess it should not be that much.

I hope they did not have to flash my ECU and it was just a plain R/R. No mention about flashing on my Service Invoice.

I'll post the invoice later tonight.

Great to hear the car is back up and running great

This is another good example of how important extended warranty is on these high-end cars.

What's next in terms of mods?

modded TB (grinded version)..

and headers...

also.. I have the Mezeire pump laying around.. almost time for warm spring days and summer is almost here.

Prob will do the pump in the next week or two and start saving for a good set of used headers from Kleemann or Renntech..

after looking a few pics of OEM exhaust manifolds.. got to upgrade those.

What do you mean by "my stops dont have jerking involved" ?
before.. I would roll to a stop... no gas or brake input...

but the car would jerk slightly back and forth.. like the trans or engine was braking.. but I was not doing anything... even at slower speeds.. around town.. I would feel it. and I thought it was the torque converter releasing the gear

now.. I can roll to a stop on the freeway.. and I don't feel that jerking anymore.. I can feel the shifting of the car, as its slows down.. its alot more smoother transition.

also... my passenger seat.. when driving alone does not shake like before.. before it would have a vibration shake that was visible by looking at the head rest. thats gone too.

This is a combination of replacing ball joints, struts and shocks and new motor mounts.. I guess if you feel your car is vibrating too much.. those are the items I would look into.
