Aftermarket brake pads issue...interesting for all to know
The guy I bought my E55 from did the front brakes before I bought it. He used an aftermarket pad which did not fit 100% in the calipers. Long story short, the tension spring didn't seat well and the pads were loose (floating) in the calipers (maybe 1mm movement). The spring wasn't tensioned and rattle which brought me to bring the car to the dealer. He discovered all of this and recommended I install new pads. So 8 pads, evealution and installation later and we're at $300...not too pad.

Something is not right then. Did you use mercedes anti-squeal paste and put it on all the pads? I put akebonos on and have not a sound come from them and they stop better than stock imho. Not even a special bedding process like the EBCs. Normal break in like regular pads.

my long time mechanic never recommends aftermarket parts and is just giving me an "i told you so" with these pads.

i put the paste on all four. ive only had them in for a few weeks so do you think the squeel is normal while they're new and i just need to give it more time?

Take the car out and do a few panic stops from 60 MPH and see if that helps. Beat up on it a bit and get a bunch of heat in there.
I put a set of EBC's all the way around on my car, didn't put anything on them, used the original rotors(no cutting), pretty much followed the bedding process, and they've been perfectly quiet for 3,000 miles or so.

I forgot to add, the bedding process for redstuff's is basically "drive around normally for 500 miles and let the special coating on the pads work its magic". I have never used a pad that was easier to bed than these. BTW, they are cheaper AND better than stock pads, especially when it comes to dust.

i just bedded my brakes, but the squeel is still there. i think that since im still on my old rotors (i.e. i replaced just the pads) i have to bed them again. i'll try again later today, if that doesn't work i don't know what else to do. thanks for all the suggestions!

I used Mintex. Backing plates did not fit great due to build up of material inside the callipers, next time I need to give the inside of the callipers a good clean with a wire bush to get all the old debris out.
