MY ENGINE WENT KA BOOOOOOMMM !!!

Well since this site is for us to post our good and bad experiences with our cars to help each other out i am here to explain my disappointing experience which for sure has happened to some of you out there although probably on a different manner and immediately removed by moderators....Keep in mind i am only posting my personal experience.

I started modding my 05' E55 in June 2009 which had around 64,000 miles at the time with a reputable tuner that we all know Bruce @ TT MOTORSPORTS who explained how my car was going to react and what 1/4 mile times i should expect at the track as we added mods, he guided me in the right direction every time without even taking the car to a dyno

List of mods: Kleemann headers, ASP 180MM Pulley, TTM base tune, code 3 H/E, thermal spacers, PTE 180F thermostat,-10 fan mod,VRP CF python tubes, Custom 3'' inch exhaust and last mod installed in December 2009 82mm TB. Before installing the TB, cooling mods, exhaust my best time was 11.605 @ 118mph with a 1.77 60' in 70 degree weather at englishtown,NJ.

We had in mind to custom tune my car on the dyno but the holidays (Christmas, New years) made it impossible and the person that was going to perform the tune was out of the country so I went on to try another product from which i heard nothing but good things in the past, great customer service and nothing but the best service so in january i let them custom tune my car on the dyno and try and make more power over what i had (Before TB and stock exhaust 489 whp 511 wtq on dynojet) New found power 508whp 582WTQ on the mighty Mustang Dyno!!! which in dynojet is around 565-575 wheel horsepower!.....obviously happy with the Animal so i bought the product on a Sunday...

Following weekend after a rainy week i took my car out to a sunday meet on which i decided to do a couple of rolls with two modded cobras and on the first run i go up to about 130mph and Beat the car by about 4 car lengths then decided to go again to make it an even worst beating to about 145-150 mph when suddenly i see a cloud of white smoke in my rear view mirror, pulled over to side shut the car off and we all agreed head gasket since it smelled like antifreeze and most of the smoke was on the passenger side exhaust but on both..keep in mind is about 18 to 20 degrees out. 4 days later at 8:30 in the morning i receive a text msg with a picture of my motor that shows a hole in cylinder wall piston # 2 saying "you need a new motor"

Naturally the last to touch my car was the tuner off course, who had my car on a dyno for about 6 pulls of 130mph each and agreed on my car being real healthy and strong with all fingers pointing in his direction I contacted the tuner and at first they offered to help in anyway they could, so i sent them pictures and it took them close to a month and a half to finally decide on their favor and entering "damage control mode"saying they were not going to be liable for this because there are cars making more power than mine and with more aggressive tunes than mine so the cause of this was mechanical failure, weak ring land, High mileage, debris, Crank sensor failure, injector failure previous damage (detonation) but the tune along with some threatening with lawyers when all i did was called them to notify them that my car blew up and never raised my voice!!!!!!!

I understand there are a lot of you out there with their product and are happy with it, but we also have to keep in mind that each one of our cars is handcrafted by a different engineer and we all may have different parts installed like 180mm pulley instead of 168mm or 80mm TB instead of 82, Headers, exhaust etc. so different tuning measures have to be taken when dyno tuning these cars Like NOT getting the air to fuel readings at the tail pipe....

I know nothing about engine internals or what causes what, i am just going by what experts have told me "might have caused this"

Its been two months and i am just receiving the engine i had to buy, It was just so coincidental that a week after i have a new software in my car, the car ends up with a hole in the cylinder wall, melted #2 piston and melted spark plugs
..The rest of the engine is still being put apart, I know it has taken time but it is time and money consuming along with checking what the tune had in it...and if allowed i will be posting all details, whether the tune was the cause or not off course, i mean after all who wouldn't want those HP numbers anyway..I do not feel the company had the right approach to this instead based their decision on 3 pictures!!

Hopefully i am the last person this happens to and make sure the Bank acct. is always ready!!

In real life i do not think any of us is covered by the tuner in the event of engine damage it always comes down to

Lord what a nightmare. My e63 is stock but it blew cylinder 8 about two weeks ago, so I somewhat know how you feel. Was the replacement engine under warranty?

Your worst nightmare...
I am glad you decided to post this man. It would be best if you disclose the tuner as sometimes these motors are given a lot of timing to produce Big HP figures but in the end your motor ends up siffering. I am glad you have decided to move forward and fork up your money to get her running again.

Thanks..Its funny you say that because there are guys out there that know my situation and seems not to have any effect on them in any way.. so i chose not to mention the tuner name here for the time being, just trying to see what the critics are, i hope you guys understand that, and off course if this is not erased there will be to come out!!! but only facts!

I don't know about others, but if I see a tuner blowing engines, I wouldn't want them to touch my car.

In this specific case, I actually have a good idea of who the tuner is, but will respect your wishes of not posting names at the moment. However, I really hope that you eventually tell people who it is so that they can avoid such a costly mistake.

Ahhh, man that is such a shame. Running a whole bunch of timing just to show the customer big HP numbers is not right at all. I agree completely with MB_forever, and am also glad that you are forging on with your beast!

You might be thinking of a different one... I don't recall seeing about LOCO's car before.

LOCO - sorry to hear about your engine. What's a new motor run these days for an E55?

OP sorry to hear about your motor. On a related note, this was a post from a recent tune day:

"My car did put down some nice gains, about 50-60whp and 70-80wtq from a Renntech 178 pulley and tune.
However the car is running lean and losing power in the upper end. It flips like a switch, no matter how much fuel is added, at 5000rpm and the AFR's spike lean and the power drops like a rock."

I'd be looking for a new tune ASAP.

thats why you should stick to the reputable tuners who are established and have a better track record.

Renntech, Kleemann , Powerchips !!!

2nd tier tuners might do the right thing but when liability is an issue i would feel safer going with the bigger outfits .
