BTW I'm so sorry to hear about your C. This a great thread to get back into it. I can't wait to read some of the responses!

I agree hooleyboy, the SLK55 will help give your girl some ***** but the SL55 is one hell of a status symbol for us with *****!
The E55 is lighter, the brakes are probably better, and it's cheaper to fix when problems arrise..
Sorry for your lost bro and good luck with your next AMG project!

E55 is...
1. likely cheaper to insure due to it being a sedan
2. more affordable so you can spend your savings on some mods
3. lighter
4. 0.28 vs SL55's 0.30-0.31 drag coefficient
5. more surprising to the other driver when you kill their exotic with your four door family sedan
6. for those not aware of the E-5-5 badge, it's a real sleeper
7. roomy enough for 3-4 of your friends

SL55 is the real deal. Consider this tho, for the money you'll spend on an SL, you can get a REALLY nice E55. If you're thinking 03-04 SL, you can easily get into a 05-06 low mileage E. If you're thinking 05-06 SL, you're talking super low miles E63.
Again, SL is the icon. I would a gazzillion bazzillion more times rather have a low mileage E then a comparable SL.
Best part: more room for fat chicks.

Another thing to consider, if you're like me, being someone extremely paranoid about Safety, etc. The SL's smaller cockpit might get you feeling clausterphobic, and possibly more "vulnerable" (smaller/lower car, etc.).

In my opinion the E55/63, CL55/63/65, and SL55/63/65 are all sex on wheels... With different purposes for each. Since the CL isn't on your list. I would say the E55 is the better choice. Sure the SL55 is one sweet ride, but the E55 is so unassuming. In my area most of the people aren't familiar with the 55s/63s/65s and most are amazed when I leave them behind in the rearview mirror at a red light challenge. That for me is why I chose the E55!!!

What about a 55 wagon? That way you could throw one or two more fat chicks in the back as well. You could also do a CLS 55 (fat chicks won't fit in the back though).

You can't go wrong with either.
I like the SL55 as GT coupe and don't really drive them with the top down but every now and then it is fun. It looks very elegant in an almost timeless way.
The E55 is just plain mean with a great interior. Even though I never use the back seat (and rarely carry any passenger), it was still my personal choice over the SL as I just prefer the overall package.
That being said, I have been looking at SL65s so the SL can't be that bad!
I really think you need to drive both and if you can't, just drive an SL and an E as that will tell you most of what you need to know.

Knowing how mod crazy you are , the E55 maybe a slightly better choice for you in the long run since it weights less and has a better drag coefficient. After all the mods, you'll probably be up there with the quickest/fastest E55 in the world
Also, the E55 has a bigger trunk.... can fit at least 2 more fat chicks in there

What happened to rule #1 - NFC?
To me it all depends on your needs. They're both great cars and gorgeous. Andy's car looks phenomenal. I love the later model's front clip on a SL55. If you ever think you're going to need the space get the E. But seriously rule #1 - NFC.

If it's an MBH business decision... makes more sense to get the SL55, so you can expand the number of models you build and develop hardware for (IIRC, you've already done E55).
If personal priorities carry more weight, then there're a lot of pluses in favor of the E55.
Can't go wrong either way, IMO. Or just grab a V12TT as a few others have said... game over.
