Be realistic here, if "money no object" then I'll have AMG build and tune my car to my way of liking.

Next step down would be stand alone ecu and get somebody who really know how tune that particular system. Better yet, have him build your car, install the stand alone ECU, and tune the it. That way there will be no suprise.

Another step down from there? Depend on where you are, get a tuner that is best with MB in your area and get to know him on a first name basis. Why? Because you will need him down the road. I like to deal with people within driving distant.

Hope this help you.

Is there even a standalone available for the E55? Who makes one? Haltech?

KLEEMANN for me

They are just down the street (for me), great to deal with and they can make some power

They will certainly be seeing some more of my "no object" disposable income

You do know that RENNTech and Kleemann also provide dyno tuning at their facilities, correct? If you can afford it, you can even have them fly out to you and tune your car. I was trying to put together a group here in Chicago a while back to have Cory from Kleemann fly out here to tune some of our cars but it fizzled out.

Ding ding ding!! I would have AMG put in the new V8 turby and she just how high they could tune it. 1000hp being the goal.

Course if money is more of tiny little object. Heard nothing but great stuff about Jeremy so far. Renntech is also getting a bit more aggresive with their tunes and mods. Never would have suggested them in the past but after Benzgals car and couple others, they are finally getting a bit more radical with the tunes.

Jeremy is awesome but so far for me, he is like the Godfather. I keep trying to find him but noone will give me an email or phone number. Jeremy if you are reading this CALL MEEEEEE!!!!!

Actually RennTech has always been able to go aggressive with their tunes, but they do not try to do so on somebody else's hardware (rightfully so).

Money no object?

bespoke AMG,
Brabus,
Carlsson, or
MKB

In that order.

To answer the "why?": performance, exclusivity, history/reputation/prestige, reliability, resale, depth of engineering & manufacturing capabilities, and comprehensive turn-key solutions.

Reason(s) not to: cost. Period.

IMHO, Renntech and Kleemann are excellent tuning organizations, and would be my "costs-considered" choices, with Kleemann being the better value proposition these days.

Really? Because their W208 CLK55 with supercharger puts out less than impressive power numbers

Since Jeremy is M.I.A, I would love to give Underground Racing a shot at it to see if they can come up with a TT setup for my and then mate it to the new 7 spd Trans.

They don't tune every single car most aggressively; in fact, RennTech usually remains very conservative than others including Kleemann. They do put reliability and durability of the car first. However, based on the owner's request and circumstances, they can essentially push the car more until they decide (based on their own research) that doing more would not be as productive.

The current 5-speed maybe more proven for those high hp/torque applications as repeatedly illustrated by the V12 monsters.

Fly out to Germany to their brabus factory and watch them hand build my beast from scratch- I forgot where I saw it but there was a program on tv where they had a tour of their facility and how they redo the interior and exterior and of course the engines...

Otherwise I love my new numbers from Tony @ let/eurocharged
