Standard Disclaimer: I love the 55k cars, but they're drastically different than an ///M car and FOR ME, I like the positives of the M5 more than the positives of the E55.
I know, I know, its the justification most give to ensure that their choice was the right one in their own mind.

I 2nd your disclaimer but probably am 50/50 on which car I liked better- mine was the M6 though. The E55 and its F/I still is one of the best cars Ive ever had and I still miss it. I thought I was over the M6 until I saw my actual car I sold to my buddy the other day. The sound, the throttle response, the look, damn.

Carbon fiber roof!

Regarding the sterile interior: I suggest getting the extended leather option (or whatever it's called).

To be fair, the M5/M6 lack the low end torque, to really feel "fast" you have to wring it out a bit, above ~6000 rpm or so
By that time you guys are probably ready to shift, had the same feeling in the IS-F.

I do like the M5's slightly more aggressive styling (looks like a land shark) compared to the E55's "Antisceptic" body, but I've driven/been in an M5 and the lack of torque is what surprised me the most. I know HP get's all the "press", but when you feel the 500+ lb/tq hit you....just...wow.

Everyone I've taken for a quick ride in my E55 almost **** themselves or burst out laughing when I put the boot to it. And that was before I started modding it!

It's simply just a monster and my god I love it. I am now an MB "lifer" and am shooting for the S65 next! (One must continue to aspire higher afterall). Modded the S65 will be 900 lb/ft of tq and 750 HP! That is simply just pornographic!

OK I'll calm down now.

The afterthought 6-speed apology to US "enthusiasts" who think that fast only comes with a third pedal is the real problem here. You need 7 gears to take advantage of the S85's powerband. The SMGIII was designed and geared specifically for this application. The 6-speed consistently drops you out of the sweet spot even if you bang every gear at 8250.

ENDSMTG: Good to hear from you man! We will have to get together this summer! I should be up in Chicago several times!

As for this seemingly endless debate, the cars are both great, they just do different things well. That's about the best way to say it.

My M6 is way more fun to drive because you really have to get involve. Wish it had monster torque like my 55, other than that, S85 FTW.

Agreed! Not to mention my Rover has a BMW engine, so who am I to bash!

Definitely should get together this summer. My boat hits the water April 17th. We still need to do some jetskiing as previously discussed. Give me a call.

You guys are amazing. Why would I write that I drove one if I didn't ? Call BMW of Flemington, ask them about the strykingly handsome 6'2 dude that drove the CPO one at 12:30pm on Saturday

ALL I wrote was my opinion, the M5 felt slow to me (relative the my E55). I stated I love BMW, quite frankly more an M fan than AMG, loved my M3 Comp but I thought the M5 would be better....especially for the hype. The seats blow, the brakes feel no better than my 545, the power compared to my E55 was laughable, car looks too boxy, I stated the car handled better than my E my I love the way my E handles, must be the PS2's . Get over it

Fair enough, reason I want to test drive an SMG....but it's got to be better than the M3 SMG I drove recently...which I undderstand it is.

Don't get too bent about the responses, many people here cannot accept that others have different opinions. Nothing more than that. And yes, the 6sp M5 take the lone road compared to the awesome SMG. The torque in the M5 is so low, it needs to stay up high to move forward. Again, some good responses here. Both amazing cars. You have your opinion and others have theirs.
