I've always loved BMW, had an M3, 530i and have a 545i which is close to the perfect car imho. Went to the dealer and drove an 08 M5, always wanted one. 22k miles, $60k....black on black. First impression of the outside is that it's nice looking but the tires are big...ok, I'm picky! Interior, the black alcantara headline is SO nice..wow. It had the full leather package with the leather dash....very nice. Seats suck compared to our E55 seats. The headrest alone is so far back. Engine, sounds like a much smaller V8, nothing authoritative about it. Car was a 6 speed manual. Shifter was nice. Power, how about the power.....very dissapointed. I missed the torque of my E55 so much. I literally thought the car was stuck in 400hp mode. Above 5k rpm, its went but nothing like our monsters. Handling was great, better than our cars but close. Overall, a nice car but nothing I will replace my E55 with. Granted, I just bought my E55 but my dad wants to buy it off me so for fun I started looking. No M5 for me! Like I said, I have a 545i which really, for all practical purposes is 90% an M5....I even have oem M5 wheels on it. Nice try BMW but I'll need to wait for the TT V8. That's all!

Seats in the E55 are spectacular. I looked at a 550i with Aero kit before, nice car, and handles amazing. Idrive, lack of torque changed my mind.

To the OP, I agree with what you say, I like the M5 but I don't love it. I love the sound of the engine and the interior is gorgeous. But it lacks in exterior styling a bit and the torque isn't there. I kinda do hate comparing the two, I know they are competitively the same class car (High powered, high class sports sedans) but they are too different in their own right. I'd absolutely love to have both (RONNIE... I'm so jealous 
). But when it comes down to it, between the two, I'd have to go 55 a million times over. There in fact isn't a car that I would sell the 55 for. It's comfort and power and the fact I can get 3 plus size girls in it is a bonus round. It's a car for me that I'll most likely hold onto for quite some time.

what's with the M3 Addict comments, I'm lost. What does that have to do with my thread. I've been here for a few months and my take is that the guy is a tool right....that still the case???

yes maam I do! Not a fan of the M5.....nothing personal...your seats blow, cars's not fast, wimpy torque, ugly brakes, sounds like a V6, not as pretty.....but nice dash leather and silky 6 spd.
