Not sure if this will help, but there are rebuild kits ($400), complete gear trains ($600), and complete 722.6 transmissions listed on eBay. I checked LKQ, and they said they didn't have any in stock.

Bad timing with the nice weather too.

Thanks, It might be a blessing in disguise. Just got off the phone with Jerry from Eurocharged and he had some good advice of some pretty trick stuff we could do. I'm actually kinda excited. Different trq converter, shift sylinoids , etc.. we shall see! I dont know if we are going to rebuild or replace yet, sounds like the "better" route is to replace. And when I say better I mean cheaper...

You think this was cause by the ECU tune?

Haha I think it was...the tune gave the car waaaay too much power and made the tranny blow! jk Ive had my tune almost a year. mutiple trips to the drag strip and lots of WOT runs so I think its fine for now..I believe if it was going to go kaboom it would have already went!

Sorry to hear Bullett. Was hoping it would be a simple fix.

I am running Jerry's TC and it's lots of fun!

Tires light up like crazy with the higher stall.

You should either talk to Paramount Performance or Southern Hotrod. These guys are building transmissions that run behind over 1000whp Chryslers. They have custom clutches and machining to get more of them in. There is no way that you could break one and they are around the same price as a factory rebuild.
Also the 900nm .6 is not something that you can mix match parts with and it will cost a whole lot more than you could imagine. You could also find a junkyard ttv12 trans and torque converter and swap your bellhousing.

Thanks guys for all your help and advice. I am still checking all options. builder bill is also a good transmission with a life time warranty. I guess no one has been able to blow one up. As of right now I am looking at europeantransmissions.com, eurocharged high throw converter, and SLR shift solenoids. Thats where I am aiming at right now. If I find a great deal on a used transmission I may go that route as well. But who knows at this point.

Have you considereed southern hot rod?

http://www.southernhotrod.com/SHR_NAG1.html

$3,650 isn't pocket change but at the same time it ain't bad for an entire new tranny that is 30% stronger then new if you ask me. Especially compared to typical AMG prices. They might even be able to just fix the problem and not nessecarily beef it up for less $$

Just a thought, in case you hadn't seen this.

Hey guys after about 2 weeks of doing research and speaking with many good people I have finally ordered a transmission and trq converter. Let me tell you though guys, if you are looking for a high performance tranny, Eddie at southern hot rod is the man to talk to, this guy really knows his stuff and his customer service was fantastic.

Aight this is the deal I got and went with. I order a remanufactured tranny directly from MB. The price was $2430.00 with all fluid and a core charge. It also comes with a 2 year warrenty. The Trq converter is also rebuild from MB and it was around $860. Also with a 2 year. In my research, this was the best way to go. We thought the stuff was going to have to come from Germany, but ended up finding one transmission in Texas, and Trq converter in Orlando, FL. Sorry if you guys blow one because I got the last ones in the states from MB. should be here on Friday and ready to go on Saturday if all goes well. Thanks everyone for your help!

Cool deal. I suppose their "super" transmission doesn't come with a torque convertor in the $3650 price? Makes sense why you would go with the deal you chose.

Luke, That's exactly right. I just didn't want to throw down that much chedder when my car is not very modded. Plus it does not come with any warranty. At least with me putting it in with myself. I am sure if he did it he would through some kind of warranty. If I went with him it would have been 3650, no deal on price, $860 for converter, plus $300 for both ways in shipping = $4810 before tax!

Sounds like you have a handle on this but I wanted to remind you to flush out the trans cooler and lines before installing the new trans. Good Luck.

Thanks! I remembered you telling me that and that was the first thing I did when I pulled the old tranny out. Had a shop do it with a machine that flushes forward and backwards through the cooler and lines. They said its ready to go. I guess it takes about 1.5 hours to do and the machine costs about 8k!

Real Cars
I lost the transmission in my E55 under similar conditions, about 1.5 years ago with 40k miles. My car never made it to shifting into neutral, but it felt a little sloppy (the tc slipping) but I wasn't really sure what it was. I find it funny that people automatically think it's because we beat on our cars we lose trannies. I agree, stressing a trans can lead to failure, but taking it easy doesn't guaranty against it. I drive my car more grandma-like than 90% of 55 owners I have met, and it still happened to me. I have done all my fluid changes and only had the best people servicing/modding my car. Apparently the fluid pump was on it's way out, then began leaking, and before I knew it I had a big puff of smoke coming from my car on the highway and was looking at similar pictures of shavings in the oil pan at the dealership. My aftermarket warranty covered it, and I got a reman'd MB trans and converter through MB. Was around $7000.

I am guessing that my converter has been slipping for quit some time now if that it possible. I had a pulley/ tune/ and cooling done last june and I put down very high Trq numbers. I was told that they can spike on a dyno due to the slipping of the converter. Although my track times are pretty solid for a stage one. I am anxious to see how it runs with the new tranny. Any suggestions on break in? Or could it really slip for that length of time?

Imagine how I felt. I was one of the first to do it and it cost more back then!

I have been ABUSING this e55 for years. I feel bad to 1 day sell this car to someone how much I floor this car. I bought it with 19k and 21k HARD HARD driving later I'm still wondering how the tranny is ok. These trannys are INCREDIBLE trust me.

The more I read about stories like this the more I want to get a warranty. I think I'm going to start working on getting a warranty tom. To the OP I hope everything goes well man.
