Idler pulley broke off
I really had no warning this was going to happen, the bolt just snapped after a mile of driving fom my house (I need to drill out the thread which is left)
I need a new bolt and pulley, am I missing any other parts as this is all I could find at the bottom of the engine bay?
I hope ASP can sort me out, does anyone know what the crack is with the bolt breaking?

I checked both bearings, the inside pulley bearing is perfect, the outside pulley bearing has a fair amount of play but turns freely?
I just want to avoid this from happening again. I had driven the car all day and not heard any noises/grinding etc........ the worn bearing vibrating, caused metal fatigue and the bolt gave after time maybe?
I might try and fabricate a support bracket.
I dont think ASP will supply this.
Does anyone no the part number of a pulley I can use, is the W210 E55 the same?
cheers
The issue I came across was the plastic pulley was/is only being sold in a package with the SC idler with pricing ranging from 250-500

the original pulley is 90mm ext DIA and 17mm int DIA, I have found/sourced from a local AC DELCO supplier a 6 ribbed pulley which is almost identical, so I have ordered for £16.

Now I have to work out have to take the front engine plate/braket off that holds the other pulleys, alternator, waterpump etc so I can drill out the broken of bolt thread.

OOH and what do you know....... MB doesnt seem to be able to supply me a new bolt as it comes with the idler pulley kit ...........£270

I bet your bolt broke from the heat caused by the outer pulley being worn out.. Now that it is getting hot, I bet we see more stock idler pulley`s fail soon..

The Plastic pulley I sourced is spot on, I cant belive that MB would not sell me the bolt separately as it only comes with the idler as a full set, typical!
the gap between the two pulleys was very tight and they were almost touching so I have used a 2mm steel washer to keep them apart and not vibrate against each other which might have been the cause of the bolt breaking due to metal fatigue.
also I dont see why it would not be possible or what the issue would be, to have a solid double pulley machined to fit......... both belts spin a the same rate.............do the not?
I replaced my accessory belt, as the car was idling the plastic accessory pulley broke tearing apart the new belt. I think the 90,000 miles of engine heat and extra tension the new belt has caused the pulley to disintegrate.
Is there a better way to fix this then spending $400 at stealership? I found many listings on Ebay that appear to sell the plastic accessory pulley only.
Now about that bolt.. Does anyone have a source for this? What did you end up going with. I know this thread is pretty old but I'm hoping to get some feedback from someone.
