E63 phone sync....

07 E63 US model. Another phone died, so time to move along. Was using V3 with cradle/charger and no issues. Think I"ll pass that to my wife since there are months left on her contract. Was thinking of going to the Blackberry. Do they work well with the MB interface? All that really matters to me is phone, I text a little, and guess I will start checking email. Wondering though, I think Blackberry has music capability too, and I don't own an Ipod (although my car is hooked up). Can someone give me a little direction? I'm open to most any phone (IPhone, Droid, BB, whatever), just want it to be reliable and easy to use. Tell me if I should be in the telematics forum. Thanks in advance...

I've used several phones (iPhone, Blackberry) and all pair up easily and work fine. I have a 2009 W211 E63 with the current upgraded COMAND system, so ymmv.

If you mean full smart phone integration, that's not possible on the '07, afaik.

edit: looks like MB offers a retro kit for iPhone integration for vehicles before 2009. Cost is $400.

imho, just use an iPod for music and the phone as a phone. Then you don't need any add-on kit.

Get the bluetooth module. I had that and I used an iphone and everything worked perfectly. It even played the voicemails through the speakers.

OK, again....

I HAVE a Bluetooth activated phone that works now (RazrV3), and loads the phone book, and ID"s the call. I have read that some do not. I just didn't want to buy another nice new phone that would not give me at least the functions I have now. And you are right, the full smart phone functions would not be available on the 211. My guess it that it is best to buy the IPhone or it's best competitor, sync it via Bluetooth, and use the plug in/Aux setup for music from the phone if I want it, right?
I just didn't want to buy an IPhone, or the best Blackberry, or whatever, and have an issue. Figured if there were some issues, you guys wouldl have smoked them out by now.
Dig?

Which bluetooth module do you have? Is it the black one like this one or the Silver one, with SLR looking 'grills' on it?

Thanks!

I think....

I gotta kill this thread. I should have titled it "which phone do you like and works well in your 211". I have a BT module, I have a BT phone. But it's dead (dying) and I just wanted to see what you guys liked, and worked well, in your 211. Thanks for any suggestions. I'm down to the Iphone and the BB9700, if you have opinions.

I think it was because your post was a bit ambiguous. Were you asking which phones work or which will give you full smart phone capabilities(?)

As I mentioned, Blackberries and iPhones pair just fine. Smart phone integration is another matter.

Check the current list of compatibles at MBUSA website. Phones get pretty subjective and we buy them not to only use in the car. You'll get all sorts of opinions.

fwiw, here's the pdf of phones from MB:

Agree...

Was a lousy post. I am aware that there is no smart phone fucntion on 211. But I just wanted to make sure that there are no other issues out there with phone book, ID, etc.
I think I'll just kill it.
