E55 EBC RED brakes... Wtf

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUt9f-OqYnE

Just uploaded this so hope it works but yeah I just had the pads installed and they are making the absolute worse noise. I spoke with other members who did not use any kind of paste, etc and were not experiencing this. Any feedback? I refuse to drive the car and will throw these pads at the nearest dumpster any second now.

My Redstuff pads did the same thing for awhile. It eventually went away though with more break in time.

That is the problem I had also with them...it took a good 800 miles of driving for them to quiet down for me...some people it takes less...think it depends on city or highway driving as to how often you apply brakes.

Well I do feel slightly better knowing there is light at the end of the tunnel for this noise, any special ways you guys dealt with the embarrassement? I decided to finally get my windows tinted this morning because I was tired of being eyed down every stop light.

wow...i thought mine were bad.

i put akebonos on a few months ago and i've had bad squeel (not quite as bad as yours, but close) ever since.

you should def bed your brakes if you haven't already...its a must for any new set of high performance pads...that being said...bedding did nothing to reduce the squeel i have.

gluck.

According to EBC's website, normal driving conditions for 100 miles and slight more braking for 200 miles and then proceed to "bed" (80 to 20 five to six times with a highway stretch for cooling)

Hmm, I wish I was recommended to do so, oh well. Hopefully I am so lucky to get this noise out of my life soon.

Brake noise comes from a variety of places but yours is typical of Red Stuff. Mine made worse noise for the first 400 or so miles and has not made a single sound since .
I flew through a canyon just last week and the brakes got better and better with over 60 hard braking events and not a hint of brake fade or noise. Impressive.

That was some funny shiat! Daum! Seriously though, I wouldnt put up with that for 10 miles. That is pathetic. I have never had a set of Hawk or Akebono dustfree pads do that and I have put them on lots of cars. They say that is normal!!!!

I will never be purchasing this brand again or from the vendor who didn't make me aware of this problem.

Grrrrrrr!!!

Guys. The harder the pad, the longer it takes to break them in. Once broken in, they are harder, so they will dust less. Being harder, they will also not have a tendency to "grip" and chatter (noise).

IMO ONLY use the RED pads on OEM rotors or Race ones that are HARD or cheap. Harder pads will wear out your rotors faster, since they will literally cut into it rather than shaping to it.

Last comment, again my opinion, but as much as I understand everyone wanting to show the AMG bling I just can not get over sacrificing performance (in an area that the car is already weak in) to get it.

- I understand the theory behind this, but is the excessive noise normal alright by everyone? I was not expecting that at all, rookie mistake I suppose.

- I am using on OEM rotors.

- How is using EBC pads "show the AMG bling"? I just ordered these to save myself the hassle of wiping off my wheels every day. Could you better explain the sacrificing statement?

The bite with Akebono pads feels the same if not more responsive than OEM. I guess we need to do some braking tests to figure out if we really loose performance with ceramic pads vs. OEM.

++++ to Akebono. They work excellent with oem rotor's and they didn't sound like a subway train, actually I didn't have any squeel and the best part is VERY little dust. If I where to put a number on it I'd say 80 - 90% less dust.

i don't understand all these success stories with akebono's. i've had my akebono's on stock rotors for two months now and the squeel is still loud. and i did a proper bedding when installed. what gives?
