The 82mm TB is 84mm at each opening.
Also, the stock 74mm SC inlet OD is greater than 90mm so boring it out to 84mm is very do-able.

Flow is restricted by the smallest diameter in the path. The restriction in this case being the inlet diameter. There should be no difference in flow between a 74mm inlet ported to 82mm vs a 80mm inlet; except that the 74mm ported to 82mm would actually flow MORE than an 80mm opening. You have your theory, I have mine
I know, I've done it. Now compare this to the pics you've seen. Tell me which would flow more and would be a "cleaner" better flowing setup. This was done on a CNC machine, including the porting of the inlet. You do see welds on the side and the adapter makes the TB sit further back. Those are the only 2 downsides I see. Notice how flow wasn't mentioned as a downside

Guys, as I don't want you believe I am wanting to sell you my 80mm tb snout and for others to know factual data, I took the disturb of measuring my stock 74mm inlet:
existing bore is 74/74.5mm

- 3/3.5mm on the best point
- 2mm and 1mm on the worst
so, at best you'd get an oval 81 x 77/78
yes, .. you could also eat some meat ... but not safe and you will always have a smaller intake than using the 80mm tb snout
me, I would take it easier and just have the 80mm inlet smoothed out 1 mm all around to get 82 and no need of any porting shop

You must have missed the picture I posted Use your measurements all you want, at the end of the day it has been done! Does that opening look oval to you? It mates to the 82mm TB perfectly.

there's a really nice gain there close to 6000rpms
I 'd like it, more than the low near 4000.
but that result is not from tb plug n play .. there's a specific tune optimization ..
yes, i understand that just plugging a bigger tb isn't also the best way to compare results and for sur eit is not the best optimization .. but we should be sure that the previous tune was also optimized finely the same ..
so, can you tell what you got from simple tb swap and no tune ?
and what about low/part throttle performance
did you had idle/errors to deal with ?

Due to the fact that PC wanted a chance to tune against LET's custom tune my car was tuned before the tb install. Afer the dyno tune, the same day, I visited ACG to have the Renntech 82mm tb installed. The next day I met up again with PC to have the 82mm tb tuned. The gains are as shown.
No CEL's or idle errors were present after the tune.

It is also worth it to note that those gains seen on the dyno would likely be bigger given proper airflow and cooling at such high rpms.
Also, this is the RennTech version of the 82mm Mercedes TB not the cheaper copies out there; although the two parts are very close, they are NOT identical

Honestly I would have like to seen gains from 2500 but it is what it is. The TB delivered what I expected and I was very happy with the overall gains. No, the results were not from plug and play and needed to be tuned in order to see the gains presented. My car did lean out and some fuel needed to be added at the upper end of the RPM range, explaining the upper RPM gains.

so, fuel was added only with software ? maybe she is still lacking some fuel around 4000 ...
seems PC made a good work before the 82tb install . so, overall, what you like most: befor eor after 82tb ?

This thread inspired me to install my 82mm tb yesterday. Mind you I'm on a stock tune, but the part throttle performance is worse imo. In that, when driving around under light throttle, the throttle cut back at the shift points is more pronounced. Fuel trims are still good under normal driving conditions. Don't plan on going WOT until I get a tune. Hoping the tune can address the shifts points and lessen the reduction in throttle %. Hadilaw, do you notice the same drop at the shift points?

Are you saying the Renntech TB is not a MB TB? They are very well known for using AMG parts, filing off the part numbers, and selling them at a huge markup with either small or no modifications to them

I did notice the throttle cut back. I also noticed my car wasn't pulling after 120mph as hard anymore. MY last tune was with the 185mm pulley. (503hp/603trq). I have since installed the Kleeman headers, and the 82mm TB. I also have the CF airbox. MY recent dyno numbers as of yesterday were 550hp/614trq. Can't say which mod gave me how much, but now the car runs strong all the way through.
So, did the new tune address part throttle drivability, or only WOT? The cut back at shift points has gotten better from the first day, but I am wondering if this is just something that you have to live with?

+++ I think that performance of this TB is the real point that needs discussion, much more than installation
